Does Your Cabin Affect How You are Treated?
 
I just completed a cruise in which my wife and I were traveling in the cheap seats - an inside cabin. In honesty, normally I travel in a balcony cabin, and too often the cruise line knows I am in the press, so I have to work at finding the "dirt" on cruise ships.

But in this case I was just another passenger. And I hate to say it, but my service in the dining room at least, was just terrible. And when I complained I was asked "what cabin are you in?" I told them my number. In the end, my complaints went mostly unanswered.

Now, I realize we all tip the same amount, but surely the cruise line cares if you paid $10,000 or $600 per person, right?

So, my question is, for those of you who have traveled in all kinds of cabins, do you think your cabin category affects how you are treated in places like the dining room or guest services department? especially if you have a complant. Have you ever felt like you were invisible?

I personally think it does affect some people , however I personally have not noticed a differance in how I was treated , in fact I was treated best on an outside window, HOWEVER I do think the more you pay the quicker the attention and help, but I am a rather polite but firm persistant person, which is why I guess when I did have problems, I remained firm, but polite, I didnt let them brush me off, I pursued it long after the cruise, remained POLITE and got back half the total fare of the cruise for all concerned in form of credit for another cruise, which we took eight months later and had a GREAT time and all was near perfect.

Why must I always be the one who disagrees. LOL I have cruised inside, port hole, balcony, and balcony suite. I didn't notice a difference based on cabin. However, I notice a big difference in service bewteen one time and repeat cruisers. Businesses are smart they didn't care where you cruise they care how much you cruise. If you are a steady stream of income for the cruise line you are given perks because they want the steady stream of cash to contuine being happy. :wink:

I actually think we had some of the better stewards back when we first started crusiing and we were doing cheap inside cabins.
but I can't complain -in 13 cruises I only had one sort've slack steward-this was on Carnival Miracle back in 04 and yep we had a balcony for that cruise. even he ws not terrible-he just did not seen to do all the extra little niceties that others did-but yes we had clean towels, a clean bathroom and our room was vacuumed, just nothing extra.

Actually, we had a GREAT room steward in our inside cabin, but of course he did all kinds of cabins in his section.

I agree repeat cruisers probably get better service.

I would actually HOPE someone in a suite would get the best service if they checked their room number - but my concern is that the cheap seat people get ignored if they have a complaint. It's like "well if we lose you there's always another cheap seat customer to back you up."

I always take the cheapo cabin inside with no window. Service was wonderful on all my cruises RCCL even Carnival and Celebrity. Although don't know if I had a better cabin would the service be even better? :D

it's not the cabin that causes the difference for me, it's how really good looking my female travel companion is LOL LOL LOL LOL

We have cruised in everything from an inside cabin to a suite and the only time we noticed a difference was the last time when we had a suite. We had cabin issues so we went to the Customer Service desk and as soon as we said we are in Suite XYZ their body language changed to more attentive and once we had 2 of them offering their services. Our tablemates had an inside cabin and the others had a balcony and we all got the same excellent service. We did notice a difference in service in the ship's stores; the employees noticed the color of our Sail and Sign card which told them we have cruise experience and were very helpful.

I agree that cards indicating a high tier in the frequent cruisers' club seem to get staff to sit up and take notice more quickly than what room you are in.

I haven't noticed any better, or worse, service based on my cabin assignment or card color.....it's all been good.

I would think that on the more expensive lines, it might make a difference, but we have only cruised Carnival, and have never seen, or felt a difference.

I've always had a balcony cabin and never noticed any difference in the level of service either with the cabin itself or in the dining room. I'm hoping that doesn't make any difference?

I did notice a difference in the treatment. We have done all the cabins except the FS, GS and RS. DW and I usually do the Junior Suite and our statis with RCI is Diamond we noticed that with those two combinations our service is very good. It does make a difference.

I agree that the color card you have does make a little difference in friendliness of the staff and definately on Carnival once you are a Platinum member. I don't really think the cabin makes a real difference though (maybe on suites). We usually do an Ocean View on one of the upper decks or a balcony on 7 day or longer cruises. We usually have very good room stewards and room service, as well as dining room service.

The only time we ever did an inside cabin was on the Riviera deck and only because we booked last minute. I can't say that the service was any different, but we did not have the customary robes in our cabin. When we asked the room steward, he was a little flip in replying that they are not issued to the interior cabins. I did not question this since I had not been in an inside cabin before, but I am not sure that this is true.

I was this year on the Noordam, and I originally booked an inside cabin. They upgraded me to an OV. I complained about a noise in my cabin, and I ended up in a balcony......and this being my first time on HAL !
