Default Our Constellation Cruise Finale

So the cruise has ended. Susanna has returned home to Baltimore and was successful in getting a restraining order against me. (if you don't know Susanna you need to read my virtual cruise report )

For me, traveling to and from cruises is the kicker. If I didn’t enjoy cruising so much, the difficulty of getting to and from cruise embarkation/disembarkation ports could be a deal breaker.

The Constellation was tied in Ft. Lauderdale early yesterday morning. I could tell by the sounds of all the heavy port equipment stirring me from a peaceful sleep at 6 A.M. We arrived at our door back in Calgary at 1 A.M. eastern time… a 19 hour day - getting to enjoy luggage hauling, airport security, layovers, going through long customs lines at home, stepping into temperatures over 90 degrees cooler than what we had woke up to. After only that brief description you now might understand why we cruise so often; we need a vacation, just from the trouble getting home.

Disembarkation was a bit strange this time. Just this past New Years, when we sailed Century, Suite guests and Elite Captain’s Club members were invited to wait in Michael’s Club, and then immediately after the ship cleared, were escorted off the ship by staff.

This trip we were invited to Ocean Liner’s Restaurant to wait comfortably, but were assigned coloured luggage tags, and told we’d be escorted by that staff when “our colour? was called. The Priority Disembarkation “perk? seems to have disappeared. And our staff member “escorting us off the ship? turned out to be one of the dancers coming into the restaurant yelling out as your colour came up.

Bottom line, Celebrity needs to a better job of their “priority embarkation and disembarkation perks? for their higher level repeaters club members than they did on this cruise. If you’re a “Premium Cruise Line? it’s not a good thing when Carnival does it better.

However, on this cruise, the cruise experience certainly did live up to the “Premium? label. We found the quality of the food to be very good, though the beef is the weak link, except for that used in Ocean Liner’s Restaurant. We found the service to be first rate throughout, and the staff we encountered friendly and first rate.

Within the ship’s production show staff ( the singers, dancers, etc. ) there is an exceptional couple; two Cirque style “gymnasts?. They appear in the first evening’s show, as well of the “ Vegas production style? shows. The “word? is that this “Cirque style? entertainment is going to be broadly expanded on the Solstice coming out next year. It will be expanded Cirque “style? entertainment, not a new contract with Cirque de So lei. Celebrity will build their own shows… thinking they can produce satisfactory results on their own, without the expense of a contract with Cirque de So lei.

I’ll be writing a full review of the Constellation shortly for CM, but for a quick finale…. Here’s a numerical review.

Ship - 4 star
Service - 4 star
Food - 3 ½ star
Entertainment - 3 ½ hr
Entertainment staff - 4 star
Enjoyable cruise experience - 5 star

Hi Kuki,
It was an enjoyable cruise but 3 more days were better for us. I love the longer cruises, it's more relaxing.
We got a wonderful time and it was great to see you and Geela again.
I am still very sorry and embarrassed for our delay at your sail away party in Cartagena.

Gitte
