For everyone, except for those of you in southern Florida, this may be the time to revive these verses.
When I hear the whistling winter wind,
my soul sets sail upon the Southern seas,
To sense again the surging ocean tides
And feel, once more, the balmy tropic breeze.
No cold, no ice shall keep me from my goal,
For I must seek the ship that my heart craves,
With decks that glow in morning's golden sun,
A ship that glides so smoothly through the waves.
When dreary days make minutes seem too long,
And pleasant times are but a feeble wish,
I know my ship will seek a shining shore
With crystal surf and darting rainbow fish.
We share the pleasures that this earth provides
And memories that we must hold as dear,
But none surpass my moments on the waves
When someone that I love is very near.
Thoughts For A Winter Night
When the ice is in your eyebrows,
And they're starting up the snowplows,
Then the South Pacific is the place to be.
When the blue birds run for cover
Cause their happiness is over,
Then those tiny gem-like islands are for me.
Then a dally down in Bali
Is the cruise that's up your alley,
Because you long to feel the balmy ocean breeze.
From the slopes of Mauna Loa
To the beaches of Samoa,
It's past time to sail those shining seas.
So just forget it's snowing
And the freezing wind that's blowing,
And dream about a place that's warm and nice.
Then, if fortune smiles upon you,
And if wishes really come true,
Then the dawn will bring a tropic paradise.
Ode To Rotten Weather
When the wintry winds turn cold,
My thoughts turn to the tropics.
Discussions of of the icy winds
Are just not pleasant topics.
Walking through the freezing gale
Is not my favorite choosing.
I'd rather be upon a beach.
I'd find that more amusing.
The numbing cold affects my joints
With running nose and wheezing.
If I can get to where it's warm,
I know I won't be sneezing.
Though some of you may fight and stay
To brave the Arctic season,
The prudent birds head for the south
Unless they've lost their reason.
It's clear just what I need to do.
I've made a resolution
To breath once more the warm sea air.
A cruise is the solution.
And so I'll board a shining ship
And sail south through the ocean
To dine and dance and relish life,
To embrace the soothing motion.
I hope that you can find a way
To flee the freezing weather,
For we must meet upon the deck
And celebrate together.
Ahhhh, Paul, you have no idea how much I needed that this morning.
Aside from the cold weather, I have a miserable head cold as well, and am feeling rotten. Dreaming of a cruise in the tropics is just the thing!
