I haven't heard any news in quite a while. I believe a bond proposal passed last year, and I think some of the funds were to be used to complete the facility. I don't think the port has a contract with any of the cruise lines at this time.
Searching the internet, I can't find any information posted after May 2007, that stated the facility would be completed in 2008.

Darlene is right, there is still no firm date. The Houston Chronicle did have an article in late November 07 that said the new cruise terminal is over 70 percent complete. They were having to do some modifications to security due to a mandate from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. It said talks were still going on with several lines. The article indicated that port officials would like to have a commitment by 2008, but even if they did, it would still probably be 2009 before a ship actually docks at the new terminal. So...it looks like we have at least another year to wait.
We are starting to hear more talk from locals about possible plans for developing the area around the terminal. Some of the ideas being tossed around are retail shops, hotels, restaurants, maybe a theme park. Also mentioned a water taxi over to the Kemah Boardwalk. In anticipation of the cruise terminal, Westin hotels is building a huge hotel/conference center in Seabrook.
I let you know if I hear or read anything else. Maybe someone else has more information.
Thanks for the update. Can't wait for Houston to open so maybe NCL can return. So nice to have another option than N.O. and Galveston (we're in driving distance)
