Default WOW !!! If U Ever Have The Opportunity To See In Person

Barrack Obama came to New Orleans today in advance of the now key Saturday primary in Louisiana..Regardless of your political or social leaning...this man is charismatic and has a message that everyone should here (IMHO)

It was only announced less then 24hours ago and he was scheduled to speak at a rally at 0945 at Tulane University and by 0630 am more people lined up then the arena could hold

I was too young to remember John Kennedy, but I now understand the excitement

now if we could just get him on BLOG2NOLA next year, that might help advance sales for Nancy

I'm from the other party....but I have heard Obama speak and he does carry himself well and actually has good plans, many better than Hillary's. He does have crowd appeal. Melody

Venice,

I watched part of his speech on the news, and he sure was promising a lot. I just hope it isn't false hope to people that have been promised before.

I do believe he will be the next President. I just wish he was more in favor of the military. I have a feeling he will use them to get all this money he will need to keep his promises.

I guess the future will be interesting, one way or another.

this is not a political thread..my intention was not about issues or anything like that..it's just the excitement and the great cross section of Americans that he draws to come and here him speak

Almost like a Rock Star !!!!

I'm a Canadian so I don't get to vote for either party.

I've been following Obama since he spoke at the last Dem Party Convention.

In my view he is a BRILLIANT guy! Though like every politcian who speaks, there's some of what he says I'd agree with, and other parts I strongly disagree.

Your politics in the US is similar to ours. We're all waiting for the one leader who actually tells the truth, instead of making promises.

And if either country ever found that leader that country would probably end up doing very well, no matter what party they came from.

Yes, his skills at oratory are unmatched on today's political scene.

Everybody tends to make the obvious comparison to Martin, but I've always remembered what JFK said about Churchill when Sir Winston died. Kennedy said, "He mobilized the English language and sent it into battle."

What a magnificent sentence.

And as time goes by, fewer and fewer can even speak the language properly, much less mobilize it. I've always been a word guy, and I know most of the oratorical techniques that are effective, and it is fun to watch someone who understands and uses them so well.

Delf..

Your post, while not offensive, began to talk about your thoughts on other candidates, their postitions, comparisons etc..... the stuff that drives political discussions. Just decided to nip that in the bud.

Kuki, I so agree with you! We all hunger for someone who's words will be backed by actions. Wouldn't it be refreshing if someone was honest with us, and could be trusted to do all that he or she promised? That person probably wouldn't stand a chance at being elected unfortunately.

Obama is a great speaker, and he is also a political candidate so it's hard not to go political with the comments here.

again, not a political thread, but he is a politician so the thread probably would go that in direction (but not my intent of the posting)

Much like AR, I just love being around and listening to people who have great public speaking skills..it's a lost art

ok back to the real world,,

Not my (our) cup of tea, either. Kuki, we don't seem to agree on things! Could we at least agree to be polite to each other?

I am hoping he comes to Texas, so that I can see him. He is a good speaker, and seems to have all the right words. I just hope he doesn't just talk the talk.

I agree with Venice, that no matter what your politics are, Obama IS a very charismatic speaker and I would go hear him in person if I had the chance.

Oh, yeah. That was the speech that really made me sit up and take notice. He clearly upstaged the candidates, although in 2004 that didn't take much. I've been keeping an eye on him ever since. Interesting man.

Yes, I think it's fair to say that he's well respected as a bright, thoughtful legislator. But you have to realize that Washington Metro is fairly liberal generally, so that provides a positive atmosphere for him.

Keep your eyes on the Potomac Primaries this coming Tuesday. It's going to be interesting, because Prince George's County in Maryland, near Washington, is considered one of the biggest and richest predominanly black counties in the country. Combined with Baltimore, traditionally liberal, should make MD strong for him. DC will probably go for him strongly, although many people in DC have always liked the Clintons.

Virginia will be interesting. Traditionally a southern state, it has lately recoiled against some really bad GOP elected officials, plus the part of Virginia that comprises the Washington suburbs has been growing exponentially, making the northern part of the state far more liberal than it has traditionally been. Virginia now has a Democratic governor and one Democratic senator. The other Senate seat will be vacated by the grand old man, John Warner, next year and another Democrat is the odds-on favorite to win that seat as well. Ironically, his name is also Warner, so I reckon that he'll win a couple hundred thousand votes from people who vote for Warner "just like we always do."

Anyway, I'm going to be very interested to see how the Virginia primary falls out on Tuesday. Both Obama and Clinton are pushing hard there, although since we left town a week ago we've personally been spared the commercials.

Like Kuki said we don't get to vote, but for sure we follow politics and have thoughts, not only on American politics but politics around the world. Over here, there were many "polls" for Canadians to take part in to give their preferances. I wonder if it is the same in the STates with regard to knowing about the candidates that we run?

To be honest, I have no idea who the politicians are in Canada. Maybe I should, but I have no clue.

Folks.. time to remember that we DO NOT want political debate on these message boards!!!!

The original point of this thread has been somewhat hijacked. I understand that because the man being discussed is a politician, some of you find it hard it hard to discuss the man instead of his politics.

But it seems to me that people can appreciate a person's brilliance, or express disagreement, without believing what that person believes.

Please keep the politics out of it, or you'll force us to lock the thread, or take more severe action.

We've had this discussion before.. about whether politics are appropriate our boards or not, and WE have decided they ARE NOT. So, also, don't try and tell us how to monitor our boards!
