This morning, I read a story in the newspaper about more than 140 million pounds of ground beef being recalled with much of it already being consumed.
How do they recall meat that has already been consumed? I am not sure that I really want to know.
Seriously, if the ground meat were completely cooked or if the meat had been irradiated, there would be little or no reason for recalls. With people starving in this world, it hurts me to think about huge quantities being wasted.

From what I understand the beef was from China . The reason it was recalled was that there were many "downer" cows that were, ummm, abused in order to make them get up, along with some of them being scooped up by front end loaders when they couldn't stand .
If you haven't seen the video, I'd suggest that you don't. I'm going to have nightmares for ages.
If it were available here I'd never buy anything but kosher beef, which is killed humanely.

Yes, Fern, I understoad the recal was due mainly to abuse and also using sick animals . Lord knows what was introduced via the sick ones, a downed cow should never be consumed. The video is horrifying to the sick dying animal, and if you think to to much about that, think about this.....the meat was mainly used to feed children in school lunch programs..............
