Another one jumps ship. Or was she pushed?

Missing cruise ship passenger

MIAMI -- The Coast Guard is searching for a 39-year-old woman reported to have jumped from the cruise ship Costa Mediterranea early Sunday morning 20 miles southeast of Key Largo, Fla.

The Costa Mediterranea's crew notified the Coast Guard at 1:18 a.m. reporting that the woman's boyfriend, traveling aboard with her, said she had become angry and agitated and then unexpectedly jumped overboard.

The Coast Guard Cutters Farallon and Confidence, a HH-65C Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Miami and a C-130 Hercules from Air Station Clearwater, Fla., were dispatched to conduct the search.

The Coast Guard Cutter Confidence is a 210-foot medium endurance cutter homported at Port Canaveral, Fla.,

The Coast Guard Cutter Farallon is a 110-foot patrol boat homeported in Miami.

I guess I just can't understand what could have gone SO wrong, that she either jumped, or was pushed. A tragedy for sure.

From the schedule, it appears that ship leaves Ft Lauderdale on Saturdays and this cruise was headed out to Key West. First night goes overboard. Is Costa that bad

We just saw the Costa Mediterranea in port at Ft. Lauderdale when boarding our Miracle cruise. It was between us, and the Coral Princess.

It will be interesting to follow the outcome of this story.....

Just saw a bit on the news on BayNews9, the talking head reported the missing cruise passenger and showed a picture of the Sovereign of the Seas. I guess most people don't know the difference including the TH's.

When I first saw this thread, before I opened it I was worried about DTW's ex!! It is really tragic that these thing do happen.

DTW's EX has not been on a cruise since I divorced her in 2003. She is in no danger of falling overboard. Her new BF can't afford to cruise.

Another article here. Yes, they were the first night out and this idiot caused the rest of the pax to miss Key West. I wonder if the boyfrined is enjoying the rest of the cruise or if he "jumped" ship too.

I am takin my boys on their 7th cruise. Just the 3 of us and we will have a great time. Besides they don't bother me about my beer drinking or with wanting to go shopping and stuff. 8)

I read a few different reports on this - one of them said there were witnesses to the lady getting "agitated and jumping" from the ship.

If there were witnesses, I guess h is in the clear. We haven't heard anymore.

Tragically, a 12-year-old girl was raped on ship recently. It is being investigated by the FBI. I hope that guy gets fully prosecuted. So far they have his name and they know the girl was sexually assaulted, but I don't believe they have made an arrest yet.

You know, cruise ship crime is rarer than most people think, but when it does happen I fully expect the cruise lines to step up and make sure the bad guys pay their dues. Carnival is cooperating with the FBI, but I hope the FBI takes action soon. Unresolved crime isn't good for anything.

Yes, Paul. I saw that too. That is a real shame and that guy should be jailed! He apparently threatened a 14 year olds BF to be thrown overboard if she did not drink with him. These perves should be banned. background checks should eliminate sexual predators. They recently took a guy off a ship that was wanted for murder also. The FBI boarded and took him off.

The FBI and local authorities if they are in port.

That exactly right, and in the jumper case both authorities got involved. It sometimes cause jurisdiction issues.

The FBI only gets involved in the crime involves a US citizen (victim or perp).
