Default Why are the showers so small ?

I was wondering why the showers are so small on a cruise ship (most).I see sometimes people walking on the cruise ship, and I really wonder how they can take a shower or if they fit in one of them.

The showers are so small because the fares are so cheap.

I guess if they don't fit in the showers there are always the pools and the hot tubs

Just kidding....

I agree that it's got a lot to do with the economics of running a cruiseline.

The second cruise we took was on the Princess Dawn. We had a mini suite, and the shower was a beautiful large walk in with marble or marble like walls as well a large tub. May have even been a whirlpool one. This was all in a separte area from room for the toilet and the sink. Most of the mini suites we have booked since, have had a small bathroom with a tub and shower. I wish they could all be set up like the Dawn was, but the size of the shower isn't going to stop me from cruising, and I suspect the cruiselines know that. :-)

If you need a larger shower because you cant fit, the gym has full large showers that you can use.

Hey CM rob another Sacramento person ::waves::. They make the showers small so they can fit more rooms on the ship and book more fares.

They make the showers so small and uncomfortable so you will shower less, thus saving the cruiselines the cost of purifying so much water.

Easy to shower in those little cubicals, just soap down the walls, step in and spin around a few times.

If you don't fit in the shower, stay away from the buffet! I never had a problem with it. Most of my cruises have been on RCI where I had the standard small shower. I have been on deck 9 on Sovereign though where it was a full size shower built for two. Also even in a 1A on the Sensation when I cruised alone I had some company in my cabin and we both fit in the shower with room to spare and to move around

I would think it is a matter of allotted space for each cabin. I am not a small person and in 25 years of cruising I have never had a problem with showering.

Default Why are the Showers So Small?

We had a balcony cabin on Carnival's Liberty last year, and the bath and shower were huge.

They figure if they make it small enough, you won't eat so much and the cruiseline save money

Although we've only been on 2 cruises so far, I haven't had a problem with the showers yet - and I'm not small. But you should ask my hubby how much fun it is to retrieve the soap after you've dropped it!

I agree that the showers are small, but I never had one as small as the one in our B&B in London in '91! My daughter was a size 2 at the time and could barely get all the way in. I had to wash by sections...... it was hilarious..... or would have been if it wasn't so frustrating.

I loved Jeanne's method! [Easy to shower in those little cubicles, just soap down the walls, step in and spin around a few times.]

Bert Stratton, entertainer on the Caribbena Princess does a wonderful comedy piece about dropping the soap and retrieving it in the shower. - just hilarious!

Personally, I've never had a problem with the showers, but like the original poster, I sometimes wonder how others fare?

I haven't had a problem with the size of a cruise ship shower. I'm 6'2" and have been anywhere from 210 to 250 during my cruising lifetime and have yet to need to use the "soap and spin" or developed an intimate relationship with the shower curtain.

Take care,
Mike

Just off the "Inspiration" today, and the showers aboard were EXCELLENT! Not great big, but certainly big enough for 98% of the folks I've seen aboard to be comfortable in. We cruised "Mariner of the Seas" last year, and the shower aboard was quite small. I'm not that big, but could have easily used the "soap up the walls, and spin" method aboard that ship.

For one thing, if they made the showers larger some of the comedians would have to write new material. Same goes for the shotgun toilets.

Hmmm...
I found the showers on HAL's Ryndam and NCL's Pearl to be quite large (?)

How was it Ken? What did you think of the new pool area? I am going Oct 2nd. Was invited by a girl and she is paying so I guess I will go. I feel a little like Ashley Alexander Dupre...

Dave,,,jump on it! We REALLY enjoyed the ship, and especially the new upgrades. The new pool area design is very much to your liking, however they didn't have the belly flop contest. They did, however, have the hairy chest competition, which you should do very well in. The cruise, overall, was truly excellent. We literally walked aboard, and disembarkation was also super fast. All the big shows were excellent as well, and the other entertainment was great, except one comic, ie: Kenny Miller, who is lame at best, but only one act out of the whole week isn't bad. I'll give you a call next week some time.
