Back in January we booked our Alaska cruise; RT air from Green Bay, WI to Seattle for the 2 of us was $701 at that time (not ncluding taxes). Just out of curiosity I checked to see what it would be today and - for the same flights - the price is $2818.00 !!! Holy moly, I'm pretty sure we wouldn't be taking this trip if we had to pay that! (I've been having some second thoughts as it is, but now it sounds like such a bargain how could we not go?

Everything is getting expensive.
I looked at a Carnival 3 or 4 day out of Tampa for a friend.
The prices are more then she can afford.
We have cancelled our other plans, ie: trips by car.
Our only cruise is for the Solsitice.
Hope to see the gas prices level out or come down.

It has cut me and my family down a tremendous amount. We also decided to give a chunk of our Cruise Money to Senator McCain. We are not taking any cruises for the next 2 years.

Fellow CMs:

Check into British Airways credit card. Per my understanding for the $75 annual fee you get 20,000 credits that can be used for Alaska Airlines. That amount of credits would buy a PHX to Juneau RT flight.

Now y'all look into it and figure whether your return is bettter investing in a credit card or in the stock market. Imagine how far stock prices would have to dump to yield a $599 annual dividend on a $75 investment.

I'll put in my two cents worth here. We've been on different ships, different lines, and seen the costs vary. However, we have a Holland booked for Dec. and when I booked flights yesterday, I was astonished.
The hotel, the day before, was a great deal thru Hotwire, but that was the only bargain in the whole package.
Sometimes, I think it would make good economic sense to hole up in a great resort in Florida for a week.

My husband is having delusions of grandeur! Says he wants to go back to Italy next year and sail on the Dream. Sounds great to me. I just want to know when he hit the lottery without telling me

Yikes - you also could have used the Bank of America Alaska Airlines Card with a 20,000-25,000 initial credit good for one free flight....

it certainly has,we will now track all cruises
leaving from san francisco, it will certainly cutdown on the
airline mess.especially luggage.
l cannot imagine trying to fit multiweeks clothing unto a carryon
bag, unless it was GI duffle bag.
Just be willing to pay for first class if you wish to check anything
at all. l do not know how the charter carriers are handling the
luggage mess.
keep those cards and letters coming

It seems to me there has been a real shift since I first started this thread in March, I thas gone from little changes to YES- definitely it has changed things. It seems people had a lot of cruises booked before and littl change to thnk about, but now with fuel surcharges, airline surcharges for luggage, the value of the dollar and lower "erceived wealth" from falling home prices, etc, that people ARE thinking twice before they book a cruise.

More opinions always welcome!

Indeed, the economic mess is begining to grind on the travel industry. So my kiddo in his infinite wisdom decided to help the industry by convincing me to take him out of school 3 days to join me in the Bahamas on the Eurodam. Got to love my 13 year old's version of an economic stimulus package.

Good point! Take them out of school and cruise during the off season. Rates can be huge difference.
