It was on the main page of their web site as a new important update, try going to the web site and you can read about it. It sounds like an increase to the current fuel charge.

That is old news and the same. The new news is that we are getting a refund if we booked before Nov 16 and sail after Feb 1st. That is $70 to me in two weeks and $20 from two weeks ago.

I think - not certain - that they will be still continue to have the fuel surcharge; they may have had to reword their language due to the agreement with the Florida Attorney General.

Even though certain people are getting a refund (those who paid a fuel surchage after having a cruise already booked) that the surcharge is here to stay as long as Royal Carribbean advises consumer in advance of purchasing the cruise.

I just received this email today from RCL:

Thank you for contacting us regarding the implementation of the fuel supplement. We are writing to provide you with an important update regarding the fuel supplement that Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. implemented for three of its brands, Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Cruises, on November 16, 2007.

As you know, we implemented a fuel supplement of $5 per guest, per day. The supplement applies only to the first and second guests in each stateroom and does not exceed $70 per person, per sailing.

The fuel supplement has been applicable to all new bookings made on or after November 16, 2007, and on all existing bookings that had been made and not paid in full before November 16, 2007, for sailings that depart on or after February 1, 2008.

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has been in discussions with the Florida Attorney Generals office to ensure the fuel supplement was implemented in a fair and reasonable manner. After working closely with the Attorney Generals office, we announced on March 10 that we have voluntarily agreed to eliminate the fuel supplement on any bookings made prior to the announcement of the fuel supplement on November 16, 2007.

-Guests booked before November 16, 2007, who have paid the fuel supplement and have taken their cruise will receive a refund through the form of payment used to purchase their sailing. Please note that the refunds will be processed automatically over the next several weeks.

-Guests booked before November 16, 2007, who have paid the fuel supplement and have not yet departed on their cruise will receive their refund as an onboard credit during their sailing.

As you may recall from our original announcement, our company did not charge the fuel supplement to guests with bookings made and paid in full before November 16. We will now eliminate the fuel supplement for guests with bookings made but not paid in full before that date. These latter guests were also provided with a three-week period in which to cancel their sailing without penalty.

We hope this modification has addressed any concerns you may have had regarding our decision to add a fuel supplement.

The fuel supplement remains in place for bookings made on or after November 16, 2007.

If you are interested in additional details, please visit our consumer websites, (www.royalcaribbean.com/, www.celebritycruises.com, www.azamaracruises.com) or the Florida Attorney Generals website to review press releases regarding this matter.

Thank you for choosing Royal Caribbean International.
