Isn't it terrible about the flight cancelations from American Airlines. I was watching the news this am and a family had been stuck at airport for 2 days while there flights had been canceled and they had a vacation scheduled at Disney World. American was finding other flights but not for them since they had booked there flight through disney. They trying to get disney on the phone to see if they could help, but had already missed 2 days of there vacation. What would happen if you were booked on a cruise and that happened?

This is why my rule is no Airline or automoblie company stocks. I'm a little worried I have American Airlines for my flight to Miami in 14 days. If the flight is cancelled I hope they can find me a flight of so kind. If push came to shove maybe I would just drive from San Francisico to Miami.

I wouldn't push the panic button until you hear for sure that there's another impending or incipient "recall." If you haven't already, what I would do right away is go online and determine the aircraft that is scheduled to be used for each of your flights. That way you'll have a pretty good idea of your chances of being cancelled if and when the news hits. Because at that point there's virtually no way you'll be able to get through to the airline on the phone.
As you know, flying is all about the survival of the fittest. And information is power.
And at this moment, a friend is trying to re-arrange her boss'es flight which is with AA. She was told " call the airlines every 1/2 hr to see if we can get him on another flight - you have to call us, we don't call you".
So the poor thing is about in tears trying to get her boss re-booked with some airline - any airline!!
Jake is in Canada now, hoping to get a flight out tomorrow morning on American. Since they won't tell him yet if his plane will fly, he tried to change his ticket. That would only cost him $1000 more. Hmmm. Guess he will just wait and see. Maybe he will get home to Florida this weekend, and maybe he won't. That kind of stuff happens.
AR, I think you hit the nail on the head. The most important thing is that the planes be as safe as possible when they are flying. If someone is playing politics then shame on them.
Wonder if we will get stuck in Rome after our cruise? You never know.
I was in a bit of a panic the last couple of days, because we flew back from Harrisburg this morning. I saw all the people in the Dallas airport on the news, and was worried it might be us today, but we did just fine. There were no crowds to speak of, and our flight to Killeen had plenty of seats.
I did hear one lady speaking about her visit to several airports today in order to get to Seattle, but she said they worked with her to find something that would get her there.
I have compassion for the passengers and the airlines.
I'm starting to think maybe we'll just drive to Seattle for our Alaska cruise... as it is, my area (Mich. UP) recently lost its air service for at least a couple of weeks, so my BIL, who is flying in from FL next week, will have to be picked up in Green Bay, Wisconsin (about 200 miles round trip), instead of 4 miles away from where I live. As if flying hadn't already become enough of a hassle. I'm just thankful I don't have to do it very often!
Golden Princess 8/30/2008 -- 1st cruise but not the last!
We are flying AA Nov.15 to San Diego. I am taking a big chance leaving Portland,Oregon early in the mornig the same day ship sails. I am lucky I have time to watch to see events unfold. But I advise anyone out there that if you can get to your cruise departure port at least 1 day ahead of sailing date.
