Default Wesley Snipes Gets 3 Years Hard Time

Apparently Mr. Snipes received a 3-year prison sentence for failing to file tax returns since 1998.

Interestingly, he wasn't convicted on any felony counts -- only misdemeanors.

So, I suppose the lesson here is: file your tax returns, if you want your rebate check -- and also to stay out of prison!

"Don't Ever Mess...With the IRS"...since he was so flagrant about not paying his taxes the IRS had to make an example of him

Personally, I don't think he should go to jail. Community service, probation, house arrest or something. He should have to pay it all back with fines and penalties. How much does it cost the taxpayers to keep him in jail for 3 years??

the IRS figures by making Snipes an example (since he snub his nose in the face of the IRS) it was well worth the cost of his 3 year term...if they had let him off with probation/community service, it would have sent the wrong message

I'm sure they gave him every opportunity to fix this long before they decided to take him to jail..if he is smart he will use the 3 years to do research for his next movie role

His next movie role should be about an actor who failed to pay his taxes and ended up doing time behind bars. I think this has potential.

If Snipes had gotten probation it would have been held up as yet another example of "celebrity justice". Hope he has fun in the Greybar Hotel.

Don’t know who the guy is, but guessing he is some sort of American celebrity. No excuse, don’t pay your tax and think you are bigger than the law,,,hello.

What is sad though is, as an individual if he is a celebrity, and how he reacted or what he did would have been based on paid for "professional" accounting advice.

Hope his accountants are sharing his cell, because no doubt they told him how to wrk his money 8)

But no, he will be the example to the US PEOPLE, and not the accountants that tell people crap like this everyday…lock more of them up. They are the ones withholding the tax dollar, not the poor sucker that took their expensive, practical advice

If he doesn't go to jail, it encourages the next scofflaw to refuse to pay his taxes and on and on. If You and I wind up paying out roughly 50% of every dollar we earn in some form of taxation, why should this SOB be privileged not to?
