I've been watching the "Love Boat" 1st season on DVD, and it has been an eye-opener!
Here are just a few of the things I've noticed:

very lax security going onboard
non-passengers are allowed to board to say goodbye, or greet returning passengers
big sail-aways with confetti and streamers
everyone is smoking, everywhere
everyone is carrying their own luggage, and I mean carrying - no wheels!
staff/crew have frequent liasons with passengers, including in their cabins!
the pool is very small, and there's only one!
no buffets, only sit-down dining!

I'm sure glad I'm cruising in the 2000's, not the 70's!

We were on Royal Caribbean two months ago, and got ShipShape dollars. We even got one of their new t-shirts. They say "Vitality" instead of ShipShape.

Years past, when in port and there was another ship tied up nearby, you could board and have a "look see" with no problems. It was GREAT to be able to compare different ships, and different lines very conveniently. No way to do that now!

We were on Radiance of the Seas. We have gotten ShipShape dollars on every RCCL cruise in the last 5+ years. In fact, we have so much of that ShipShape logo merchandise, my wife has about 100 of the SS dollars in a drawer.

Well I will make a point to study the compass and see where the ship shape activities are. My kids have not seen shape dollars on past cruises either.

Not that I need any more ship shape merchandise. I still have ship shape tshirts and sun visors from the late 90's.

People could go onboard for bon voyage parties, and then they would call the "all ashore thats going ashore" sound!

Royal Caribbean used to give you a booklet with all the passengers contact info..Of course when I cruised the computers were down, so, no one got it..shortly there after they stopped this.

Yeah I forgot about the passenger booklet. It was nice to look thru it and see where the cruisers were from.
