I was on another site and someone was asking about TA cruises. The topic of freighter cruises was talked about. Does anyone knew what they are and how they work? Has anyone ever been on a freighter cruises? Is it cheaper than flying to Eurpore?

Not sure how they now but a GreatAunt used to do all of her travels to Europe via freighters. Yes you do need time but from all she said you can have a great time. It is something that has intrigued me ever since hearing her talk about it the first time.

I have never cruised on a "commercial" ship (I.E. freighter, tanker, etc.) but have worked on many.
Each time that I have been invited to enjoy a meal on board I have been absolutely amazed at the quality of the food.
From the officer's to the crew's mess the food was great.
I mentioned this to the Captain of the SS Lucia and he replied that the meals were the highlight of each day so they HAD to be good.
Peace through superior firepower.
