Default What's Your Avocation?

I thought it'd be fun for everyone to show what they make, build, construct, sew, craft, or do as a hobby in their spare time.

I have a woodshop in my garage, and currently build outdoor furniture. I build patio tables, adirondack chairs, bird houses, and am considering building a deck lounger, the type which was on deck on the Titanic.

Here is a representative photo of an adirondack chair that I built out of mahogany.

What's your avocation?

Great topic Mean Dean! and great work on the chair too!

I have also admired Floridanamaw's wonderful photography. I enjoy photography too, but not so good at it as you are!

What I do enjoy is making jigsaw puzzles, having them laminated and decorating the house with them, or as my walls are full now, making them as gifts for friends and relatives.
Here's one I made for our cruise room:

And here's one I made as a gift, for entertainer Bert Stratton on board the Caribbean Princess:

Meanwhile I'm just waiting for the next special occasion to make the next one!

I like ceramic sculpture I mainly do masks this is a bust I made. It's relaxing you start with a big 25 pound block of clay next thing you know something emerges.

I write poetry and afflict the readers of this page with it from time to time.

I do collect things and have 997 minature liquor bottles, still full, of all types and shapes. There are also about 300 cardboard beer coasters lying around and several hundred 33 1/3 albuns of broadway shows, folk music etc stored away. I also collect dust and have to be moved around at least once a week.

I don't even want to think about the things my wife has collected.

Each of those little bottles contain 1.6 ounces of liquor. It will be a party that you will never forget, or, more probably, never remember.

I enjoy all sorts of "stuff", but probably enjoy music, and singing the most. I also do woodworking, and "mechanical" projects, such as restoring old cars. The lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) enjoys telling me what to do next, and we both collect dust as well.

We are multi-talented..lol
DH likes to do woodworking, furniture, beautiful scrap books.
I like to do scrapbooks of all our vacations, cruises, and family reunions.
We are both retired, so lots of time to do what ever we want.
If only it wasn't so expensive to do what ever we wanted

I have made crafts out of wood, restored classic cars, and write. There are occassions of photography as well.

Well, I used to do a lot of crafts - but haven't the time or room anymore.
Want to get into "scrapbooking" - I still have my daughter's wedding photos from Sept. '06 in a box not to mention the other 20 odd years
of photos to catch up on. I LOVE to do counted cross-stitch but usually
during the winter months. Hard on the eyes. Plus I still work at my Avon
business - and that varies depending on what the current specials are.
My DH is still working 24/7 (we have a hotel and bar) but is gradually
turning more responsibility over to our son (26) but he will ALWAYS
have his "fingers in the business" one way or the other until ------.

Brewing Beer is my hobby. I have brewing for about 5 years, and generally have about 5 different beers bottled. Some people think its more work thatn its worth but I truly enjoy the fruits of my labor!!
