Greek Cruise ship Oceanos

I was on youtube (as usual) looking for something else. When I came upon this video of the Oceanos Cruise ship sinking in 1991. The captain and crew abandon ship leaving the passerages to fend for themselves. Guess who helps save everyone?

I remember watcing a doumentary about this, with my jaw to the floor! It was just unreal to see what the passengers had to do, and watch those lounge chairs, slip off the deck!

The entertainment staff were the heroes, if I remember correctly.

Shame on the Captain, and hope he is not on a ship right now!

Captain Yiannis Avranas was quoted in the New York Times as saying, "When I give the order abandon ship, it doesn't matter what time I leave. Abandon is for everybody. If some people want to stay, they can stay." http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpag...Avranas&st=cse

The year after the sinking, Avranas and several members of his senior crew were found guilty of negligence by the Greek Maritime Board.
