We just had a beaut a bit ago. The shaker was just updated to 5.8, so there'll be after shakes. We just walked around the property, and everything seems to be fine. What did we lose? A beer glass! Pictures are all askew, books on the floor, and the phones, including cell phones are not working.
I was minding my own business and all of a sudden the house really shook. I just sat there with my mouth hanging open listening to all the cupboard doors opening, the glass crashing and wondering, "when will it stop?" It seemed really long.
Anyway, we're okay but rattled. We were right on top of it, the epicenter being about 20 minutes from here.
We were rocking and rolling here at the hospital in Long Beach. It has be downgraded to a 5.4 already with a couple 3.4 and 3.6 after shocks. My building is on earthquake rollers so it last longer but it was a good 20 or 30 seconds. Many coworkers were under their desks, but I just sat it out. Like Judy said, no cell service or regular phone service for about 30 minutes. DH was mowing the grass at home about 10 miles South and didn't feel anything. He didn't know about it till the neighbors came out of their homes looking around. No damage for us.

I was driving into work and I noticed some stop lights were out, and that a lot of people were hanging out outside their buildings. I turned to my BF and said something is going on, and he said yeah, its lunch time. We totally missed it. The DJ on the radio finally clued us in.
A lot of things in the office have fallen off the shelves and the ceiling tiles sprinkled white on everything, but other than that, all is well.
