the hottest brass band in New Orleans these days is Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue..they tour alot and I'll let you know if they are in your area so you can go experience them and then we can chat about which is better

What do you think of Zumba?

I got a schedule of dance classes offered at the local high school. I'm thinking of Zumba dance class. Starts in Oct. goes for 8 weeks on Mondays for 1 hour and a half at $120. Looks like alot of fun.
They say it is a mix of Salsa/Merengue/Hip Hop. 8)

Hey CQ I love your dance enthusiasm, incl the videos.

I say go for it, Zumba classes will give you a great workout to a variety of music. The music seems to be mostly merengue and Samba. You will definitely have fun with this aerobic like class.

I am more of a couples dancer, weather it be country, swing, Latin, or ballroom; although I also like a line dance from time to time. Last night I went dancing to two separate venues; first a ballroom dance and then to a singles dance. Between the two I danced just about every dance style I know. I especially like the challenge of a singles dance because, unlike ballroom or strictly Latin dances, most people don't know how to partner-dance and most songs are open to a variety of dance styles. Variety is the spice of life, which so very true with dancing.

Hi Jim,

Sounds like you had a great night with alot of dancing.

Change in plans the Zumba class at the High School are out. The classes are on Monday nites and Dancing with the stars will be starting soon on Monday so I must be home and glued to the tv to watch DWTS.

However did some research and found 4 dance studios nearby that offer Zumba classes. I did not realize how popular it was. I narrowed it down to 2 studios since the times were better and on Monday I will go check them both out and sign up for one of them. It works better because you pay for a card then everytime you go they punch your card until you have no more punches left then you buy a new card. The good thing about it is you are not tied down to certain days and hours. You can go twice during the week or once or skip the week all together. However I plan on going twice a week.

Wanna laugh I did the Zumba video above today 6 times it is about 10 mins. long so it gave me a Zumba dance workout of 1 hour and it was great. The latin moves in Zumba are right up my alley!

I will also check out Arthur Murphys in the fall/winter I would like to take private lessons also. I'm not sure what the prices are at AM.

There is also this Ballroom Dance studio and it is close to home.

CQ... because of the large number of recovery workers from Latin America in New Orleans to help with the recovery, there are a few Latin Dance Clubs that have sprung up in our city...on your behalf I will do some "research" so when you come to BLOG2NOLA we can go check them out

When I worked for Special Olympics, a couple that were taught Salsa, did some sessions for our Athletes and it was sooooooooooooooo much fun...our athletes pick it up quicker then I did

I usually find the nearest 10 year old and they teach me all of the latest dances..much cheaper then paying for lessons at a dance studio ::

Venice I don't know about a 10 year old when you can learn from Pros right on youtube in the comfort of your own home!
