I realize this post belongs in the Hotel board, but just looking for some input.
Our cruise (Sept 3) is going to end in Vancouver, and we plan on spending 3 days, post cruise, enjoying the city and area.
Since I have never been anywhere close to Vancouver, does anyone have suggestions as to which area to book the room? I plan on renting a car.
If you want to be right by the ship then you can spend the big bucks and stay at the Pan Pacific or the Fairmont. I stayed at the Pan Pacific for our 2002 cruise and it was quite nice and VERY close to the pier.
My suggestion, seeing you have a car, is to use Priceline and bid $110 for a 4* for downtown. You should end up with something nice.
Take care,
Mike

We did the same a few years back after our cruise and got our hotels thru priceline by bidding downtown 4*. We got the Hyatt and Sheraton Wall. I wish we could afford the Pan Paciific. Maybe next time. We did not rent a car and never felt the need for one. We walked everywhere, shopping and cafes were close. We did buy tickets for the HOHO bus and they are good for 2 days but we used them for 4 because they never checked or marked them. We still have them for another visit! We went around once then again and got off at a planned stop, had lunch, got back on for a few more stops then off for Starbucks and Granville Island, then back on to China Town, etc. Lots of fun!

An unknown GEM of a hotel very near the cruiseport in Vancouver is the Blue Horizon Hotel. I stay here on my trips to Vancouver, and I have put clients of mine in this hotel and they all loved it. Depending on time of year, the rates run from low to mid - $100s per night for a standard room.
