Skin Flynt

A skinflint is a person considered so miserly that he would even "skin a flint" to save something of it.

He can cut back somewhere. Also no punn intended.

As odd as it sounds Larry has a point. One of the problems with any bail out is rewarding people that have failed. The companies and people who are responsible get over looked. I believe the best way to help the American auto industry for example is give the American people a ten thousand write off over three years if they purchase an American car. That would at least get people looking again. Giving the car companies money will buy time but not fix the root problem. At least thats the way i see it. Mike

and if we could fix our education program so people could spell 'pun,' it might be even more effective, this 'stimoulous' package.

It's funny the people who misspelled these words are from Canada and New Zealand. So I guess our education program is fine and we need to work on the other countries.

It's a really good thing that spelling mistakes don't determine how badly or well we do in our lives.... I'd be a pauper ... but I got rescued with the advent of spell check.

Frankly I wouldn't feel and pride or embarrasement from how I type on a message board.
In this medium I don't think people need to be too concerned about some misspellings or typos.

Kuki, you are correct on that one. Thank goodness it is ideas that matter, or I would have starved to death years ago. When I received the E-mail from Bloody Mary,s tours my first though was thank god there is at least one person in this world that spells worse than I do. Mike

All I can say is that Larry Flynt has, in the vernacular, chutzpah!!! People need jobs and affordable health care.

Yup, even in Canada, where education costs next to nothing compared to the USA, the are some who choose to sleep though it all. They even manage to pass... Education is a gift that should never be refused, or wasted. There are literally billions in the world who would gladly surrender a limb for what we so casually take for granted, even sneer at.

I agree that we are truly very lucky to have the education available to us that we do! As for spelling mistakes, sorry, but many of these, certainly in my case are typo's, and this is a relaxed forum, a friendly forum, so I dont care much if I dont catch all of them.

boSeaphus I agree with everyone here. I'm a bad speller so I won't say anything about other peoples typos.

Heer reed tihs, I leraned tdoay taht msot poeple can raed msipelled wrods as lnog as the frist and lsat leettr is rgiht.

If that is true what does it matter how you spell? As long as my tax dollars don't go to bail out the pron industry I will be happy.

I agree Delft,
but one of my pet peeves is the overt celebration of ignorance and the proliferation of same. It's fine to be "undereducated" (I can't find a better word, sorry) but some folks simply revel in it, and think it's okay, even cool.

BTW Typos are fine (I'm guilty as much as the next person).

I personally LOVE when the errors slip past the spell check (like "there" and "their")... and reveal what is otherwise hidden by use of technology. That's why we still have copy editors, and it's a growth position.
If you pay attention to CNN-HLN, the "scroll" at the bottom appears to be typed in by a dropout at times, and that is an utter shame.

Katlady, as for bailing out the "pron" industry. I think Flint KNOWS he hasn't a hope in heck.... he's just making a statement about bailouts.
I doubt his particular industry will ever really need a bailout.

Boseaphus,

I agree 1,000% with you on education. The only reason I didn't get an excellent one was my fault, I was too lazy. My mother, who spoke four languages fluently (including Latin (and who in Heaven's sake speaks Latin?!)) was an English fanatic and was constantly on my kiester. I try to this day to avoid beginning or ending a sentence with a preposition, usually unsuccessfully.

Whenever I end a sentence with a preposition, the lady usually slaps me.

I misspelled porn (pron) on purpose because the site has a filter. I spelled it right this time let's see if it got through. Nope it shows up as deadend.

It's funny, because I used to be an excellent speller, but it seems that as I get a bit longer in the tooth, I can't spell squat! I NEVER used to question my spelling,,,,,but now,,,,,it's a battle! I keep a dictionary next to the keyboard because as a computer engineer, I don't trust spell check, just for the reasons listed above. Oh well. Life goes on.

Ken. I too keep a dictionary by the computer for the same reasons! The problem is, in addition to my numerous typos, I also will go back and edit a phrase as I write and often when I do, I forget to change the rest of the sentence and the whole thing sounds ridiculous!

It's also difficult to proof read your own work because you read over many of your errors. That is why I'm so glad the editor of the paper himself goes over my column and catches all those glitches. Maybe we should have our own editor that would make us all look as if we were professionals!

I always sort of got a kick out of Larry. Especially when he points out that most of the people who scream the loudest what scum he and the other producers are actually rent/buy alot of porn themselves lol.

Kuki:
Yeah for you. I don't think anyone really cares about typos or misspelling on here. We are all friends...well most of us are.

And as for Flint: he should have taken better care of his money instead of spending all of it when he had it. No bail out for him!
