Default Los Angelos Area

Hello everyone!

My wife and I are thinking of cruising on Royal Caribbean out of Los Angelos later this year and we were wondering if anyone could tell us how far the cruise terminal is from the airport and also suggest some good hotels and locations to stay at for a pre-cruise day or two? Thanks in advance.

i'd suggest you search the web, but don't enter 'los angelos' they won't know where you mean.

By posting here it does appear to me that this person IS "searching the web". Otherwise one would have to guess you mean to suggest they do a "google" type of search, which you could have been more clear.

Some people prefer to attempt to get recommendations from "first hand experience... which is a very big part of why CruiseMates exists; for people to share helpful information.

It's purpose is definitely not for others to ridicule the poster for a typo, or simple error. It may have been a typo, or perhaps English is not the posters first language.

I have to side with hombre this time. As a native of Los Angeles, I get a little ticked when it is misspelled. Kuki, hard to think of it as a typo when it is done twice.

As for the OP's questions; the distance between airport (LAX) and cruise port (Port of Los Angeles) is not as important as time of day and resulting traffic. The distance is only 20 miles; however, the drive can take you anywhere from 18 minutes to over an hour. Here is the link to the Port of Los Angeles:

http://www.portoflosangeles.org/

As for where to stay, depends on what you want to do while in LA and whether you will be renting a car. If renting a car, I really like the Hampton Inn the intersection of Century and La Cienga. It is close to airport and rental car lots and centrally located to west side of city. However, ifyou are going to want to spend your time at Disneyland, I would definitely get a hotel in Anaheim. In fact, you might want to fly into Long Beach or Orange County airports, stay at Disneyland Hotel, and forego a car. If you want to spend your time in Hollywood and Beverly Hills, I actually like the Beverly Hilton even though Trader Vic's is closed for remodeling.

I am sure that since there are many Californians on these boards, they will have plenty of advice if you provide more specific desires.

By the way, the official name of the city is:

El Pueblo de la Reina de Los Angeles

Marc.. whether it was a typo, or whether it was an error because the poster doesn't spell well is IRRELEVANT.

Neither you, nor Hombre, can say you didn't understand the question.... which IS the point!

It is ridiculous to discourage people from posting questions, or responses, in fear of making a spelling mistake!!!

You offered a response to the question, which could be helpful to the poster.
That's the purpose of the site. The rest of the post is just "noise".

I love it when someone asks about west coast cruises. It gives me a chance to give some advice.

Disneyland Hotel is expensive if you want a hotel in a better price range walking distance to the mouse. Try the Carousel Inn and Suites or Candy Cane Inn. If you want something to do (depending on time of year the TV shows go dark) you can see a live TV show taping. The "tickets" are free, but they don't gty entry, so get there at least an hour earlier then the tickets say. The tickets are free, so for popular shows like 2 1/2 Men it gets crowded. They tape in Burbank. Here is a link http://www.tvtickets.com/fmi/xsl/core/recordlist.xsl?.

Universal is fine if you like rides. However, if you want to tour a working movie studio warner brother's has a VIP tour that is really great. Also in Burbank. Here is a link to that. http://www2.warnerbros.com/vipstudiotour/ Burbank is a bit of a drive from Disneyland so you may need to rent a car to get there. Or stay close to burbank if you want to do these things. I hope that helped.

Depends on how adventurous you want to be... LAX is about 20 mils from the Cruise ship terminal...It could take awhile depnding on the traffic..
Places to stay...I would look into the Queen Mary..Easy access to the Cruise Ship Terminal..You have Ports O Call , the Long Beach Aquarium, good shopping and places to eat..You could also take a day trip to catalina island...There is a lot of fun things to do right there in Long Beach..

I stayed at the Holiday Inn san Pedro and it was cheap, nice, clean, comfortable and convenient. They offer a shuttle right to the ship!
