Default DTV Switchover Fiasco.....

Sometimes it's better to let people fend for themselves than to constantly coddle them.....

The Congress delayed the DTV switchover from 17 February 2009 until 12 June 2009. This isn't the first time The Congress has delayed the switchover. Or the second. Or the third. Or the fourth........

Thumbing their noses at The Congress, nearly 500 stations are going ahead with the 17 February 2009 date.

http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/20...gital-tv_N.htm

So we now have TWO switchover dates. I don't suppose this will make things more confusing; I mean, two dates have got to be less confusing than one....

Painful as it might be, the correct course of action is to set ONE date, a reasonable amount of time ahead, and stick to it. Even the procrastinators will get their butts in gear, if they know there is a deadline and it won't wait even for them.

I am just looking forward to watching tv again without message banners constantly streaming across the screen - it is distracting.

I posted on this a month or so ago and I still believe that people are making more out of this than it needs to be. Just do it and the people will get off their butts and get a converter.

I'm glad that the "coupons" have an expiration date on them. As I stated a month ago, my in-laws have friends that got them "just in case". Leaving less for people who really need them.

I am also amazed that a person who can handle eight bingo cards can't figure out if they get their TV signal from an antenna, cable or satellite.

Take care,
Mike

People have been informed for some time that this was coming. They should have taken the steps to be ready for it.
