Default Sorry, it's been discontinued...

Lately it seems, everything I like gets discontinued...

Zwieback, remember those baby toasts? I loved them with tea..gone!

Got2B hair product, gone....

Found a close Pantene substitute, gone.....

Make up products you get to know and love, gone

How about you?? Frustrated like me?

Well you can always try the shampoo that Consumer Reports rated as their number 1 shampoo years ago.... Ivory Dishwashing Liquid. Sounds weird, but it washes completely and leaves no reside and perfectly pH balanced.

New things come to replace some of the old things that have to be discontinued. But if you look around you might be able to find it. I see that GermanDeli.com has some and so does Amazon. In Canada we call them rusks and I think that they are still made by Grissol. Take a look at http://www.darefoods.com/ca-en/produ...ks/index.shtml[url] is that them?

On the good list of items discontinued... Betamax, Polaroid Instant Cameras, 9" floppy disks, 5.25" floppy disks, full height hard drives, block cell phones, Carnival airlines, the DC-8, the DC-9 and People's Express airlines. Old washing machines that had a board for scrubbing. Televisions with tubes that came in furniture. The Edsel. Typewriters. George Bush. 33-1/3 single records and the Video Disc player all come to mind.

I miss Tame Cream Rinse. Every time I wash my d/d's hair, I remember the stuff. How smooth it left your hair and every tangle would disappear. Can't seem to find anything like it anymore.

The one thing that was discontinued that really pi**** me off was my job. That was in 1995, so I should probably stop obsessing about it......

I don't know if you get AVON cosmetics in the U.S. as it's a Canadian company, but it seems that every time I find something I like, it gets discontinued. They'd better not EVER discontinue their Lilac Bubble Bath!!

Postum - they discontinued it a year or so ago. I liked it at night - my dad always drank it and it reminded me of him. I miss them both.

Jen, yes my Dad likes Postum too. He found a bunch of it somewhere, and started squirreling it away. His stash is just about depleted though.

Try Aussie 3 Minute Miracle. You don't have to use it often and you can leave it in the first time for longer than the 3 minutes. The trick with conditioners according to Paula Begoun is that it can't be "natural" because what conditions hair the best are all chemical. (She's famous for her book on cosmetics... but since I'm a man well... shampoo, conditioner and shaving foam are about as far as I really go.)

As for postum, they might have the European equivalent in the stores, Pero. Or at least on the web. I don't know anything about the taste of it though... I don't really drink coffee or tea.

I looked on eBay for Postum... wow! I think you can buy appliances for less money.

I miss the "Emerald Seas" cruise ship. The fun thing about it was that every cabin was shaped different, so you NEVER knew until you opened the door what the cabin would be like. Sometimes it was long and narrow, sometimes "L" shaped, sometimes VERY BIG, but always a surprise.
I also miss my '62 Corvette. (Yea, I know,,,I could find another one of those,,,,,if I had the money).

Ephraim,
What I am looking ofr is sort of a hair recontructor.....As I mentioned. 2 companies have discontinued their products.. I went online found the Pantene at a drug store chain. I ordered 2, and received the wrong items...long story short, after a month or so, I got a charge credit, and they let me keep the products, because of their lack of customer service.

I just found another product, just by chance, the other day, marked down at Walgreens, so good chance this one is on the way out too, so I am off to another store to grab what I can....

Most women, as I am, go into "mission" mode, to find what we like...no stone is unturned, and some of us persevere

Trip. I'm being serious about trying the 3 minute miracle, but leave it in for 15 minutes.

There is also some stuff sold in packets for single use, reconstructors like Ion effective care or Ion conditioning miracle from drug stores or places like Sally's.

I realize I'm a guy, but I've had to use these things a few times for damaged hair.

And when you can't find it in the store, you can order it online. Try froogle.com

As a hair stylist for 14 years I have seen the stripping effect for dishwashing liquid on hair. I would strongly advise against this. Ephraim I like you, but this is the scary thing you have ever said.

I can help. Describe the chemicals on your hair. I have perm and color and yes my hair is healthy and shiny. Is you hair fine, meduim or course? Straight, curly, or wavy? Do you want your hair to have more body?

Not me... Consumer reports said this. And they spoke only of the original, not any of the modern clear versions. I'm a man... usually I use Suave, but I will even use the stuff on the ship. Remember... men don't travel with shampoo, we will use whatever is on the shelf, including your $100 a bottle stuff if it is there.

Incidentally Consumer reports this week had an article about not washing your hair as often as people do.

See now here is the problem. You know nothing about Trip's hair and you are recommending a product. Plus you are a guy, so you probably don't have color or perm on your hair. In fact, your probably don't even blowdry your hair regularly. These kind of things impact the type of conditioner you should use. Also regular haircuts are important in keeping hair healthy. The fact is most grocery store products have water as the first ingredient which means they won't be very effective. While I'm on my rant Conditioner and Shampoo in one is a myth. Dirt and Proteins are both positive ions, so how can a shampoo both remove and add positive ions at the same time?

Okay I feel better. Professional products are better than grocery store products, they have better ingredients. Ephraim I hope you don't feel I'm picking on you. This is my subject and I feel strongly about it. This is not meant to be mean. I hope I didn't come off that way.

See this is how we differ. I need the good stuff when I cruise, I do to much to my hair to not have a good shampoo and conditioner. I don't pay $100 a bottle, but I do get the professional discount as a license Cosmetologist so that helps.

Honestly, don't worry about it. I don't take things like this personally at all. I'm just saying what works for me and I'm sure that people will find what works for them and look at the package and ask for help.

I have no colour in my hair. I don't blow dry. I don't perm. You are right about that. For the most part it's wash, condition, towel dry, comb and done. Sometimes some gel or mousse.

But you are right, I'm a man and we don't think about that stuff. Pretty much if it's clean, dandruff free and stays where it's supposed to, I'm done.

Sherry,

You'll be impressed -- I cut my own hair!

Just put the #2 comb on the clippers and take it off. I've even got a system for squaring off the back.

Wonder if I have a career as a hair stylist........!

At an army base maybe. Most women don't want a buzz cut.

Try the one called "white rain". That is "tame", but under a new name!

Katlady,

From the guy angle, I probably do everything wrong. Used to blow dry my hair (to get rid of the waves)...probably wrong. I still wash it every day....undoubtedly wrong (Ephraim, I'll have to find that in my CR)...and yeah I use a shampoo with conditioner.

But I no longer blow dry it and no longer care that it's a bit longer (no more "cop cuts" but then again, they weren't as drastic then as they seem to be today). I still have a full head of it at 62 and don't have it nearly as short as I used to (I'm too cheap to have it cut that often) but if I were to go bald, I couldn't care less; it is completely white and has been since I was 41 and it is still very wavy but I no longer care.

With that, My wife of 38 years says it looks the best it ever has. Guess she needs glasses worse than I thought!
