So when the wife was shopping for a birthday gift at the crafts store I spent my time more constructively.
Snagged some cruise and vacation theme stickers on sale at 40% off. Stopped at Lowes on the way home and got a 3 pack of magnetic heating vent covers.
Wife had some construction paper with beach sand as background. Used spray on contact cement to glue on piece of paper to trimmed piece of vent cover. Positioned stickers and slapped them down.
On fridge door for scale.
Stickers ~$6
Vent covers $5
1 hour out of my life $?
Being able to find your cabin after that third bone dry martini...priceless.

I noticed you either have or will sail on the Explorer this year. Have you already sailed and if so, did you post a review (there's a new one posted by "Joni" but don't know whether or not she's your wife).
If you haven't, would like to know your thoughts on the cruise. We've been twice to the Eastern Caribbean on the Explorer ('06 and '08) and are going again this June.

Well to be honest EoS could use some TLC. Its doesnt appear that they have spent a dime on keeping her spruced up since we were one her a few years ago. I felt the food was a little sub-par compared to previous cruises. For some reason it felt a little crowded this time around. No explanation for that...same ship and all. We didnt hate it but this is the second time in a row that RCCL hasint lived up to expectations.
I hated the port of Bayonne. It was complete madness. You would think they just started cruising from there based on the chaos. It took two hours from the time we turned into the port entrance till we walked through the cabin door. That was almost as long as it took to drive there. You had to take this stupid shuttle bus for the 100 yards from the check-in desk to the gangway.......obviously a union job.
Like I said we didnt hate it but the wear and tear was obvious.

Sorry Russell that you weren't pleased. To be honest we noticed little wear between our first cruise in '06 and the one last summer. But it will be something like four years when she was last drydocked and that is scheduled for this Fall, I believe. Of course we won't benefit from that either.
I'll do a thorough objective review with all the plusses and minuses I detect and I'm sure there'll be some of both. As regards Bayonne (aka Cape Liberty"), I too am really surprised RCL has made little to no effort to upgrade it from being basically a big open warehouse. Certainly no curb appeal by any means (even after over five years, it still appears to be what it was, an industrial area) and I personally believe that's so important.
Food of course is subjective and we've always been pleased but then again, they did cut back last year on quantity of items if not necessarily on quality. We'll just have to see.
Thank you again ever so much, Russell, for your comments.
Great idea!! I buy refrigerator magnets in every port and decorate the INSIDE of my door- hadn't given much thought to doing anything to the outside!! We are booked on a LONG, port intensive cruise next year- I am looking forward to filling the inside of my door!!
I loved your ideas of decor. It was helpful for me since i was planning to decor my cabin door but it was still pending due to lack of ideas. Thanks for providing tips for decor.
