Landon Donvon, he is not at the level of a Kaka but he is very good. I agree with what you said about the women's team, I saw them play in the semi finals of the world cup in 1999 against Brasil. The US won. Mia Hamm was on the team at that time. I wish a world cup would come back to the USA it is something to see. Brasilian fans are fun.

The problem with soccer in the U.S. is many kids don't learn the game of soccer.

Many kids learn that soccer is about running and shooting and not passing just being selfish with the ball.

I've watched grade school and high school games for 12 years now. You get the parents on the sidelines yelling "Boot it" "just kick it"

Many kids can't pass a soccer ball to their teammates feet. They pass the ball and the teammate has to run to get it.

Youth soccer in the U.S. is pretty sad.

I have been watching soccer in the US for many years and I concur with CQ 100%.

Another thing is that American TV sponsor don't want soccer in this country. It's much easier to put commercials in baseball or football.

Not being a big soccer fan, this is probably a stupid question, but......

If every kid in the U.S. has a "soccer mom", and practices and plays soccer every week, why doesn't the U.S. do better against the World in soccer? It seems like more U.S. kids play soccer than football, basketball or baseball.

Mean Dean..good logical question...let me try..I grew up in rural upstate new york and attended a small high school that had less then 100 boys, we did not have a football team so we played soccer for our fall sport..a high school next to us had 200 boys so they played football..at a typical home soccer game we had maybe 50 fans (including my 10 GF's ), at the football games on friday night they had the entire town..soccer is just not considered an "American" sport like football, basketball, baseball and most boys who play sports don't want to grow up to be a soccer star (no big $$$$ in it and you don't get to date the cheerleaders)..as a matter of fact they don't have cheerleaders

in the rest of the world, on the other hand, socccer is a passion, that fathers teach to sons, superstars are idolized, entire communties support with a passion, and when it comes World Cup time fans are crazy..and as the soccer ladies on our boards have clearly indicated, they love their superstars...the term "soccer moms' probably is derived that the moms are the only ones at the games

Mean Dean..in your neck of the woods, soccer is a great college sport but still draws no where near the crowds of football...NCAA soccer tournaments draw small crowds and no tv coverage

I was upset when the US player score a goal and got a red card for taking off his shirt. The soccer players (female and male) always take off their shirts after they score a goal. This behavior should be encouraged not red carded.

Venice,

So what you're saying is that, even though we have the "soccer moms", we still don't have the support in the U.S. for soccer that other countries have.

And you're probably right.

I'm not a big soccer fan myself, and don't know that many who are. So I guess until that changes, we won't get too much better at soccer. It's nice to see, however, that the world has a common sport to compete in, that being soccer, and that sport gives us all something in common.

Perhaps the World would be a better place if we settled our differences on the soccer field instead of the battlefield.......

Mean Dean..well actually I read a great book last year about when Nelson Mandela was elected President of South Africa, he hosted an international rugby tournament that included both Black and White players on the national team to help unify his country, so yes, sports can be the great common factor

as a parent I would be in favor of soccer for my child because it's great exercise and has less a chance of my child being hurt

Very good comment Dean.
That has been happening in the countries that joined to form the European Union. For centuries there was constant war in Western Europe and today tere are countless internatioal soccer matches going on all the time.

Are you talking about this picture?

What is Natasha Kai looking for?

The Austilian women's team did that calendar, but I will have to be careful what picture I use. This is a family site. Oh this picture is safe.

Germany players

Heather Mitts USA national team thinks you should watch more soccer.
