I am not surprized by anything that happens. With so many people on the planet anything is bound to happen.

Nothing in this crazy world suprises me. Never say Never...anything can happen.

I'll agree with V and say I hope in my lifetime a cure for cancer is found. Seems like more and more someone I know or know of has/had some form of cancer.

Something that never happened.....911!!!

( A ) I knew sooner or later a terrorist attack would hit us here in the U.S. but not in the magnitude it did on 911. That was a shock.

( B ) I hope to see a cure for for cancer--so many people have to suffer with this seemingly unstoppable disease.

( C ) War-- in my lifetime we have had Korea, Vietnam, Irag 1 and 2, and Afghanistan. In a way I'm glad I served in the Army in Vietnam--it was indeed an adventure to say the least, albeit an extremely dangerous one but it was such a waste of lives--wish we could never ever go to war again.
So, my fine fellow cruisers, there are my wishes and thoughts

This may be slightly off topic but hopefully not too much. For decades, every new generation has lived a little higher off the hog than the one before them. Alot of this has stemmed from easy credit and a growing sense of entitlement and the "gotta have it now" attitude. Also, in the past, alot of people have gotten used to the idea that if they become a little peeved at their employer, they can just throw their hands up and run out to find another similar job without too much problem.

What I guess I never thought I'd live long enough to see is this and possibly some future generations of young people are probably going to have to live more conservatively in many respects than even their parents have. Sure, I believe the economy will slowly bounce back over time. However, I just think things will never be the same for many years to come....A college degree isn't necessarily going to be a ticket to a great job. No more easy (way too easy) credit especially for younger people who aren't established. I also think we have a huge energy crisis looming with the ever increasing demand and the fact neither side of the political fence seems to want to do anything serious about it except debate....If we think gas, oil etc. are high now, just wait.

Not trying to sound too "gloom and doom". I just think people are going to have to work harder to keep their heads above water and are going to have to get used to living within their means or they are going to be in real trouble.

I never thought I would see the Saints win the SuperBowl.
Oh wait - that hasn't happened yet has it? Oh well - back on the wish list

I think we are on the way to curing cancer in my lifetime. Personally, I would hope for a cure to many of the autoimmune neurologic diseases such as ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), MS. Also non-neuro autoimmunes such as lupus, rheumatoid, and Crohn's. And also the heartbreak of Alzheimer's.

For the third I will only say that I am distressed at the loss of liberties in the U.S. No flaming please.

At one time I would have never thought that I would see eight/sixteen gigabytes of disk on a media the same size as my index finger.

Take care,
Mike

Now that I think of it, I did not think that I would ever retire, but I did.

1. Never thought I'd live to see an African American U.S. President;
2. Hope to see (a) Cubs win World Series; (b) cure for AIDS; (c) tourism to Cuba; (d) end of all wars worldwide (world peace);
3. Hope to never see another terrorist attack (domestic or foreign) in the U.S. (people seem to have forgotten/ignored/accepted Oklahoma City bombing)

1. Never thought I would see the Berlin wall coming down.
2. I hope to see a Cure for MS and flying cars
3. I wish the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami never happened. The earthquake was a magnitude of between 9.1 and 9.3. The U.S. Geological Survey initially recorded the toll as 283,100 killed, 14,100 missing, and 1,126,900 people displaced. However, more recent analysis compiled by the United Nations lists a total of 229,866 people lost, including 186,983 dead and 42,883 missing.

I agree that the biggest shock in my lifetime was the way our government (local and national) handled Katrina.

The thing I thought I would never do: Ride a bus in Shanghai to go to a dinner at the home of one my Chinese employees while sitting next to a Russian citizen having a polite conversation about our children.

I hope that we maintain our liberties and education of ideas in this country.
