Default WARNING--This picture may upset some. So be warned

This picture was taken in an Elephant Hospital or Animal Clinic. Be warned it is grusome so proceed at your will. The elephant has lost part of his left front leg. They are reattaching one and will place a cast over it.

Tell us what country we were in when it was taken.

I would say India , beacause Indian elephants have smaller ears than an African elephant, maybe Sri Lanka also!

I was thinking Thailand too and as for when......does my answer count if I go by the date in the lower right corner of the picture?

Poor elephant, hope it was okay after the procedure.

I'm guessing Thailand also. I feel bad for the Elephant, but I'm glad he got treatment.

It would take something VERY LARGE to completely sever an elephant's limb.... probably an encounter with a train or large truck. I doubt either could have stopped in time. Sad.
Still is one lucky elephant... and calm, too.

I also vote for Thailand.

Ray, when I saw title of thread, I thought this would be a picture of a nice looking Tahitian woman au natural.

It is in Thailand. I was told that the elephant stepped on a land mine. There was many planted in the area with conflicts during WWII and with border country Burma.

It was a sad sight to see but I am glad we had the chance to see. We were on a land tour with Grand Circle Travel 10 years ago. It was a tour that I will never forget.

Here's the positive spin on that.

Thirty years ago there were few "Elephant Sanctuaries" and this animal would have either been shot or left to die a painful death.

The world isn't quite as bad as we think.

Take care,
Mike
