Default iPhone or Blackberry?

OK you business types out there, which do you prefer, iPhone or Blackberry?

Most businesses are hooked on Blackberry because they integrate with your workplace better. I currently have a 1st generation iPhone and it is nice, but I don't love it like so many people do.

Mine is not 3G so it is SLOW, plus the AT&T network is not very robust, especially on the road which is where I use the phone the most.

You also can't use the iPhone as a modem. However, iPhone has GPS (Blackberry you pay extra). iPhone has a greta screen and is great for typing email. It also has millions of apps and makes a great MP3 player.

In any case, I am pretty sure I am about to say goodbye to the iPhone and go back to blackberry. Anyone care to talk me down?

I have had a Blackberry Curve since July, and I LOVE it! I can do virtually everything business related from my phone. I was going to purchase one of the mini-notebooks, but with all my Blackberry does, I don't need one now.

Paul,

Sadly, I won't go the IPhone route because I am with Verizon and will stay with them because I am grandfathered in on an old employers corporate rate. It cuts my bill in half so it's worth it.

I use a Blackberry 8830 Global Phone and I like it a lot. There are enough apps available for travel and business that make it much more functional. I was seriously thinking about switching to a Blackberry Storm (Touch screen) but I have two friends that have them and do not like them so I'll wait until the next generation.

Email setup and web browsing are easy with the Blackberry but I do envy some of the I-Phone apps.

Take care,
Mike

Mike, that is why I got the Instinct, I didnt want to give up my grandfathered Nurses plan. They no longer offer it, but they let us old nurses keep it. It's way to good to give up, and by getting that phone I could keep the plan and yet have most of the features I wanted, which really mainly was internet for email. ( unlimited) I would have had to give up the plan to go to Blackberry, and even the dealer said he would never give up a plan like I have, so we were buying a phone that alloud me to keep that plan. Sam has a regular phone, he sends no texts, no email, he doesnt even pick up voice mail on it........if it rings........it's either DS, his mother or myself!

Default iphone or Blackberry?

I'm sort of like Delft's DH. I have an old cell and don't use it for anything except call home from the grocery store if I need to. I hate cell phones!

Well, even with the faster iPhone you still get the AT&T network which is not nearly as good as Verizons. You can only get uPhone with AT&T (if you didnt kno that).

The new iPhones are much faster, but cost more, but the drawback is the network. The verizon network is great.

I really DO like the iPhone - the touch screen is way better than Blackberry's (which the touch/push screen - that is cheesy).

The screen in iPhone is great, GPS is great, web browsing, etc. I guess the blackberry is also good but the screen is so much smaller. I dont wear reading lasses because i don't need them, unless the text is too small.

Do any of you use the blackberry to connect your laptop to the Internet? The iPhone does NOT allow that.

DS said he never uses blackberry to connect to the net although he knows that he can. I dont use the GPS on the smart phone, as I prefere my garmin. I also much prefere the touch screene of the smart phone versus the blackberry but then again DS seems to have no issues with it.

Judy, one night, Sam was with mysef, DS his mother , his cell phone rang, we were all shocked because we were all with him, so who could be calling? It was a wrong number!

I have learned where my contact list is on my regular cell phone . Does that count?

I told my family I wanted one of those smart phones. They started laughing. Does it mean you have to be smarter than the phone?

Smartphone... you have all the functions of both the blackberry and the iphone but you can add hundreds of apps paying only once instead of the monthly subscription charges the other two hit you with.

Smartphone is just on Sprint, though, right? One of my top concerns is the actual network. The other is ability to type. iPhone is great for typing, but the AT&T network is not so great.

We just drove Phoenix to Las Vegas (no Interstate). The iPhone was a far better mapping device than our Tom Tom - where you have to pay to get updated maps. The iPhone has Google Earth and maps that even show traffic conditions. Blackberry won't do that without a fee.

I think most of the "apps" are just silly on these phones, though. I had one guy on a plane going "look at this, look at this" with his iPhone. It was a "flashlight" app - nothing but a whitescreen. Wow, I was impressed (not).

If I use the Blackberry GPS function, at my house, it shows that I am about a 1.5 miles from my actual position. I guess it's because of my rural location. If I get to a more urban area it works fine.

I have used it in Malta and Turkey and it worked "fairly" well to show me where I was and where I wanted to go but I would never "rely" on it like a real GPS.

Take care,
Mike

I don't care for cell phones --in my opinion they've become nothing more than an electronic nuisance-- I have a Walmart " Trackberry " cost $12.95, can do many many things and even make phone calls on it when I need to.
Now you can't beat that !!

I have an iPhone, my second one (3G S) and I'll never ever want anything else. Said the same about Nokia, though, had several Nokias over past 12 years. One might say that I stick to a brand....

An iPhone is great, mine is fast, I have 3G coverage in my city everywhere, it helped me through other states too, finds nearest restaurants, (my sister had a headache, showed me nearest Walgreens), post office, police station, it has GPS, weather forecast, currency converter, dictionary, mobile ebay, mobile amazon, yellow pages, MSN, ICQ, Yahoo, Twitter, youtube, t.v. guide, google earth (really cool), shows all the AAA discounts around me, satellite radio, online banking, unit converter, shopping list (mine even scans bar code of things, shows me the price and where to get it cheaper within city limits) have 25 GB of photos and videos of mine on it. Another cool app is "Shazam". You don't know a title or singer of a song? Just hold your iphone in front of radio and it'll show you both after a few seconds. And there are more such good apps on it and I have about 40 games on it such as The Sims, Texas Holdem, Monopoly......
You have no idea what a text message costs to Germany but I, online 24/7 with my iPhone chat with my family through MSN Messenger or ICQ almost daily and it costs nothing, it's all covered by my monthly internet plan which is like 30 USD out of the 80 I pay and I used to pay over 200 USD just for texting.

Maybe...... Apple should pay me for advertising.....?

I think I'd be totally helpless without my iPhone. I went to Orlando for 7 days and did nothing but book everything through my iPhone and did all the sightseeing with its help. Wow!

Just FYI...

I ended up with the Droid which I love. It has almost all the functions of an iPhone (and in some ways I like it much better) and it is on the Verizon network.

The Droid has a free GPS that works just like Garmin - with directions and spoken commands to turn, etc. I even have a dash mount. It comes with an onscreen type pad just like iPhone or a mechanical typepad (which I rarely use).

The spelling correction is much better than the iPhone.

But what I love best about it is (1) the Verizon network and (2) I don't have to use iTunes to interface with my computer. I can just plug it in a USB and drag & drop files, songs, pictures etc. It works just like a mini windows computer. I HATED iTunes.

It also tethers so you can use it as a modem, which the iPhone did not do (I guess some people are doing it now).

The Droid even has a better screen than the iPhone (more pixels), and it is 3G and very fast.

The only drawback is it is not GMA - so it does not work in Europe, but it works on all cruise ships except Costa.

I hope to soon be trading in my Blackberry for the Google Nexus One phone. It has the same OS as the Droid. Since I have Verizon, I have to wait until the Verizon verson comes out. I hear it will be available on March 23rd.

I don't use iTunes. There are other options. I do the drag and drop in Windows just like with any other cellphone I owned before. There is a huge difference between a first generation of iPhone and this one. Talking about screen and pixel and modem....
While I'm on the cruise I turn it off, everyone will survive without calling me for 7 days. But other than that it is irreplaceable for me.

Spectra...

I realize there is a big difference, but it made me SO mad that the new 3G phone came out just after my wife bought me the original for my birthday, but if I wanted it I would have had to pay $400 that I just said "forget you." So when my contract was up two years later I went with Droid rather than give them my money.

Plus for me in AZ the ATT network was awful.

Also, I gave up a blackberry which I could tether (use as a laptop modem) for that iPhone, and for two years I had to do without tethering. I had tethering working on my Droid the first day.

I have to say I am also surprised you can use your iPhone and just drag & drop because I just gave up my old iPhone in January and I was still stuck in iTunes. I never found a decent APP that let me open up my phone simm just like any other drive as I can with the Droid.

Anyway - I still love my Droid, and in truth I find most Apple apps to be silly. And I love the speed and coverage pf the Verizon network. I just wish it was GSM.

Wow all the fancy phones that do everything!! I have a simple little Samsung that does get the internet. I tried it once but it was soooo tiny. It does have blue tooth and I like that feature. My service is Metro PCS, unlimited everything for $45 a month and no contract. Works for me!
