Default Calling the Dog Experts, what kind of dog mix is this?????

Okay Maggie, my dog is for certain is a large part terrier infact she looks like a Carin Terrier. The thing is a Carin terrier is a small dog about 10 tos 15 pounds and Maggie is 57 pounds. She shows a lot of terrier traits, she loves to dig and has killed rodents that were in her back yard. I love that trait BTW, she has save my wine grape harvest this year.

However, she is much calmer then a Cairn Terrier. She rarely barks unless she has a reason. I did see her do something very herding dog like. My cat Elwood was moving to slow into the house and Maggie nipped at his heels to get him moving. So what is the mix in her that makes her so huge??? I got her from the animal shelter, we picked her because she was the only dog not barking. That is the fun thing about mix breed dogs, guess what's in the mix. I would love to hear your guesses.

Here is a Cairn Terrier:

Here is my 57 pound dog Maggie

Kat,

I wouldn't venture a guess. Her mix could be anything from Border Collie to Shitzu.

Regardless she has a great face.

Mixed breeds are the best. Fewer genetic problems and they also seem to be more resistant to disease.

Pure bred dogs keep my daughter in business.

Take care,
Mike

Could be some Corgi in there....but that doesn't explain her size...

This is what the animal shelter thought she was. Australian Cattle Dog, also known as the Queensland Heeler. I'm not sure I'm seeing that. Most people think she looks like the dog from the winn dixie movie.
Winn Dixie dog.

I doubt you would want to spend the money, but you can now pay to have the DNA of a dog tested which will tell you every breed they are mixed with.

That's tough just by looking at her. She really looks almost total terrier. Her snout in the close up almost looks slighty shepardish but I might be reaching a bit. Either way, she's cute and looks like fun!

The problem with testing is they don't test for all breed. The Winn Dixie dog is a rare breed called a Berger Picard or Picardy Shepherd. Those dog kits don't include that breed of dog.

Because her temperment is so calm there has to be a breed mixed in that is making her mellow and large. Most Terriers are hyper not mellow. She does have terrier traits, the digging is from her terrier side. Unless there is a breed of mellow terrier I don't know about. I think you may be right and she is part shepherd.
