There's lots to see and do in Honolulu. Go on your cruise line's web site and look under "shore excursions." Of course, you can also tour independently, but you can run the risk of missing your ship's departure if something happens to delay the independent tour. If it's an excursion made through the cruise line, and the tour is delayed, the ship will wait for you.

If this is your first time in Honolulu, I highly recommend taking an all day Island tour. We were in Honolulu from 8am until 11 pm so we had plenty of time. We did one once from the hotel that went to Diamond Head, around the Island, Pearl Harbor, North Shore, mountains and the forrest and the Dole Pineapple factory. It was fantastic. Enjoy!!

Before you do anything else in Honolulu, you must visit Pearl Harbor.

Plan on being there all day, as the USS Arizona BB 39 Memorial will take a few hours.

(USS Arizona BB 39, President Herbert Hoover aboard, March, 1931)

After visiting the Arizona Memorial, go over to Ford Island, and tour the USS Missouri BB 63. Be sure to take a guided tour, which will take a minimum of 2 hours.

(USS Missouri BB 63, underway, late 1980's)

After that, you can visit the Submarine memorial for another hour or so.

Enjoy!

If you are in Honolulu until late I suggest doing Pearl Harbor and then see the Polynesian Cultural Center.

I suggest booking the Cultural Center online and save a couple of bucks and book one of the higher end packages and have a fantastic dinner plus receive more personal attention and in-depth information. It will also allow you to get through the center in a more expedient manner.

You can do a one day car rental and save some money.

The Dole Plantation isn't what it used to be.

Take care,
Mike
