Will you sail the mega ships .. The oasis or the epic.
How many of you are just dying to sail the Oasis or the Epic and if not.. WHY!!!

Mike M November 21st, 2009 02:03 PM

I know I will sail on Epic. I am interested in the new design. Except the "pop up camper" that is the Garden Villa Suites. That is really ugly.

I like the renderings I've seen of the new cabins, venues and I like the expansion of the specialty restaurants. I know it is a way to get more revenue but I do like the concept they now have on the current ships and I enjoy dining in different venues on different nights.

I am unsure about Oasis. I will probably sail her in a couple of years just for the experience and I can't really give a valid opinion until I actually sail her. It may be sooner since my wife was impressed with what she saw on Good Morning America.

Take care,

Delft November 21st, 2009 04:25 PM

Oasis absolutely not. Weare not fans of RCI in the first place, we dont like assigned dining times. The ship is just to large and we are not interested.

Epic, the issue for me that totally turns me off is the bathroom lay out. I have what so ever no desire to brush my teeth in the sleeping area, I wake early, and I have always loved to be able to creep into the bathroom, quietly get dressed, do my teeth etc, and leave the cabin, without waking any one up to any great degree. With the layout of the cabin, the sink separate in the sleeping area, this becomes impossible and therefore we wont even consider it. We are the type of people that have absolute must have and even if it has many other things, if it doesnt have what we need or want thats OUR priority, then its a no go no matter how many good things it has. I dont like that some one can come in the cabin as some on is coming out of the shower, and yes you can lock it from the inside, but then thats a nusence for any one else sharing the cabin. Bathrooms and their layout are important to us.

I will try the Epic specific reason, it just appeals to me more

thecruisequeen November 21st, 2009 05:49 PM

Well I'll be on Oasis in a couple of weeks for the first time and will be cruising on her again and again.

For now not sure about Epic. Like the old saying goes never say never.

What is with the bathroom layout on Epic? You mean the sink is not in the bathroom?? Is that on all the cabins on the ship or just certain cabins.

Marc November 21st, 2009 06:14 PM

700 pax is largest I really want to sail. However, those Aqua cabins with the 270 degree view are appealing. Maybe if the price got reasonable, I would try one for a short cruise.

Donna November 21st, 2009 07:02 PM

I would in a second!

ScurvyDog November 21st, 2009 07:46 PM

Booked on the Epic but no plans to sail the "Whatever of the Seas".

BornToCruise November 21st, 2009 08:51 PM

I want to cruise Oasis of the Seas just to see it. I just hope the itinerary changes cause I've done it. Only thing I'm concerned about is Central Park and what comes with a park and all those live plants - bugs. I'm concerned it'll end up having ants in the shower or bees on the balcony.

I agree 100% with Delft about Epic and won't sail on it because of the bathroom layout. As soon as I saw that sink in the sleeping area, I knew I'd never be on it unless it's the only ship sailing an itinerary I absolutely must sail and has zero single supplement.

seadog2 November 21st, 2009 09:17 PM

Count me in. I love the mega ships, there is more to do and see.

Kamloops Cruiser November 21st, 2009 10:43 PM

Might try the Freedom class at RCI but Oasis/Allure/Epic are big for my
liking. I found MOS a just to big.

DonD November 21st, 2009 10:47 PM

Yes for sure. I love the mega ships. Oh, I love all the ships. The worst curise I had was fantastic.

TwiceAroundTheBlock November 22nd, 2009 03:19 AM

No thanks, too many peeps onboard for me! I don't mind crowds so much, but that many would be as much fun as hernia at a Weight-Lifter's Convention!

skymaster November 22nd, 2009 09:56 AM

Maybe, on both ships, but it'll be a long time, as the prices on the Oasis are way out of line. Epic is a bit more reasonable, and I'll probably try that one first.

Chuck Palm November 22nd, 2009 12:30 PM

Oasis....probably yes

Epic......Probably not (We are not partial to NCL. If the reviews are great we may be forced to reconsider however.)

travelgalSue November 22nd, 2009 12:51 PM

If the opportunity arises I might go on either or both. I myself do not like the big mega ships. I enjoy the smaller ships with the smaller crowds. With the mega ships I'm afraid I'd be spending too much time finding my way around. There looks to be so much to see on them it would take over 7 days to see it all.

dfhawk60 November 22nd, 2009 02:05 PM

we love big ships and would try it with a open mind for the right price.

CruisinK n J November 22nd, 2009 10:17 PM

Will You Sail the Mega Ships .. The Oasis or the Epic
Nope. Don't like big ships. But as someone as has said, you never know . . .

kerenegade November 23rd, 2009 01:31 PM

We probably would not because my dh doesn't like large ships--but if the price was right who knows --but I would never say never. Any cruise is alright with me!

hannibal November 23rd, 2009 11:15 PM

If the itinerary is good and the price is right, I would cruise on either ship.

TravelMike November 28th, 2009 05:06 PM

Very Large Ships!
Carole and I are booked on the Epic, Oasis seems almost to large. I have no doubt that we will try it a some point. I am interested to hear from people on the advanced party how getting on and off works with so many people this could be a problem. I like San Diego very much but we had one of a worst boarding experiences on Radiance of the Seas. Radiance is half the size the Oasis. This is not the normal experience with RCCL, I am curious to know how they handle so many people. I hope Oasis is a success, but filling 2500 rooms every week sounds like a big task in this economy. I was happy to hear that RCCL will be discounting. They should take a page from NCL lower the cost of the rooms then charge for every thing else. Mike

I would love to see the Oasis:D but I don't think that I would ever sail on her:(, she's just too big for my taste. I also get the impression that she's more of an amusement park than a ship, but that's my opinion. For all of you who will be sailing on her and/or other mega-ships I hope you have the experience of your life:mrgreen:.

dirknme November 29th, 2009 10:22 PM

Why not both!
We are already booked for 2 weeks on the Epic and will definitely do a week or two on the Oasis. We saw her when we were on the Jewel repo in barely covers it!

Interesting to read how many people seem to prefer the Epic over the Oasis. I am not a big fan of mega ships but the Epic does look like a beautiful ship. Like others have mentioned, I also am not a fan of RCL but maybe I should be looking into NCL.

nlb1050 December 1st, 2009 08:24 PM

Quick answer no to both.

The Epic a few reasons, one the bathroom layout as Delft said. Shower in one room, toilet in another room and sinck in the cabin, I like to wash my hands as soon as done with the toilet and with this set up the door handle is always going to be dirty, plus the idea of waking up someone else in the cabin with me. Other than that we do not like the way NCL handles the dining rooms. Sure they have lower prices but they really want you to pay for dinner and it shows in the non paying dining rooms.

The Oasis is plan TOOOOOOO BIG.

Now is someone was going to pay for me to sail eith it would the Oasis, it is easier to get over size than all the extra costs.

richstacy December 1st, 2009 10:33 PM

I would do the Oasis just once for the experience, if it ever got out of the Caribbean (which it won't). I agree with Sheila above, these things are more amusement parks than ships. I'm always amused by people who go to sea in a ship and still need something to amuse them. A sign of the decadence of our society I'm afraid. I have always been sufficiently fascinated by the sea and the voyage and the exotic ports. I prefer ships that are ships and amusement parks that are amusement parks.:)

Manuel December 2nd, 2009 07:00 PM

I am booked on the Oasis ( april 2010 ) , and we just booked the Allure for dec. 2010.

We have sailed twice on the Liberty of th Seas and we loved both cruises.

We are still young enough ( but retired) to enjoy the big ships.

When we get older we will go back to the smaller ships.
