Default How cool is this cruise quilt

http://www.makoweruk.com/dbfiles/ima...a%20Cruise.pdf
This link is to the pattern of this quilt, I couldn't find any pictures. I thought about trying to make this quilt. But this type of quilt is beyond my skill current level. Plus, the people fabric is from the UK and very expensive. I'm saving the PDF in the hope that one day I can put it off.

That quilt sure as heck will let someone know how you travel!

Of course it may be purely coincidental, but I'd probably wager the idea for that quilt came from an old ocean liner poster.

Kat, this looks like another styalized version of the Normandie,an art deco ship, that caught on fire in NYC..quite a history attached to this beauty.

The lines of this ship have been used over and over, here is a picture of what was used for the Art Deco Weekend brochure. I happen to have it somewhere, along with a magnet of the same. I think this is the most popular shot used....some of her architechtual pieces wer salvaged, and used in some of Celebrity's ships......How fast will you click, Dick Tracy..oxox

That quilt does look a lot like the poster. I love art deco, I own Roseville pottery. Since this is an English fabric company it makes sense they would have a quilt of an old ocean liner. I can just picture take that quilt with me to the Queen Mary Hotel in Long Beach.

Oh and BTW http://www.sealetter.com/Jul-03/lisacol.shtml
Celebrity's Summit is now home to several important works of art from SS Normandie. Four golden lacquered wall panels from the First Class Smoking Room are prominently displayed in Summit's Normandie Restaurant. Additionally, the statue of "La Normandie," which once stood atop the grand staircase of the First Class Smoking Room, now stands guard in Summit's main dining room, the Cosmopolitan.

Kat,

Check some of your dollar stores. I picked up the book for a buck! Haven't read it yet but realized that yes, it too, had the same thing on the cover.

As a big time student of the days of the great Atlantic liners, the Normandie (aka The Ship of Light) is I believe, the most beautiful ever built.

It's worth your doing some research on that vessel as I'm sure you'd really enjoy the results.

I sent the picture to my quilting friend and asked her to make one for me
I would be a beautiful quilt to have!
Sure....sure...she'll do it - no problem!

The whole quilt is done by applique with freezer paper. So I'm been You tubing trying to pick up the technique. I wish I could call Vegascrossfire's freind to make me one too. I saved the file to my computer, once I learn to applique I will give it a shot.

Todd I will check the dollar stores. Sometimes they have some good stuff there.

Steph from Texas could have a booming busines.. she did similar things, so beautifully...wasn't quilting, but, embroidery....she made Aiden some bibs when he was born. She also did some ships on tote bag, and blankets.

Smile nice quilt

That is a very nice design. I quilt and this is actually an easy technique and simple design. Must check into getting those fabrics! Nice wall hanging.

I also have an embroidery machine and have been making "in the hoop" luggage tags & sunglass cases for our upcoming first cruise! And an embroidered fleece lap blanket and tote bag and well...lets just say probably way more than we can possibly take with us! But the embroidered pashmina and blouses will go!

Thanks for the link to the quilt!

Hi Roxy Doxy I'm a self taught Beginner. You Tube videos helped me a lot. I have a question would you use freeze paper techinque or wonder under with a zig zag stich?

Here is one of my first quilts.
