I can't figure out why this site won't let us post without a hassle. It logs us out every time before we finish. If you don't hear from Judy it's not because she's not trying. Keith
I had a problem with that today too Keith and Judy, don't know why...
perhaps the big guy in the red suit and all those reindeer are wreaking havoc with the satellite systems out there.....
Judy in Firefox, go to Tools, options, privacy, then show cookies, then click the button that says remove all cookies and that should solve the problem.
Yeah for some reason his problem started a couple of days ago, at least for me and I am running Firefox as well and checking the box did not work. Nothing worked and it would forget my identity every time I would go to a different page or post. There was some kind of glitchy thing and removing the cookies seemed to work for me, I've had no problems since.

I think there was something the IB tech people were working on the other day. However, it should have only lasted the day I think.
Still experiencing the glitch today on 2 different computers, a desktop and a laptop.
The whole "remember me" cookie thing should not be the end all answer here. Why mandate a forced cookie as a workaround to a glitch the user didn't create?
As Ive posted before, cookies can be read and / or made to be malicious and are blocked or deleted by 3rd party software or by those using safe PC ing features within their browser settings.

I shouldn't be the one answering here, as I am certainly NOT the techie here.
But you have a password that has to be used to post here. I'm guessing that if you don't have it remember your password, you wouldn't be allowed to post until you enter it (log in).
Tech or not, I think you're right Kuki...Had the problem and as long as that box stays checked, its OK. Now, why it un-checks itself, good question?? So far so good for awhile now.
Keith, You're welcome and I am so glad it helped. I talked to Hubby, the techno geeky wonderguy and he said most likely when the the people who administer the website made their changes, they flushed certain data out which invalidated some of our cookies and that is why we needed to remove our cookies on Firefox.
Now I don't know if I accurately relayed what he said but that was what I got out of his explanation... which usually, my eyes glaze over and all I hear is blah, blah, blah and I nod my head knowingly like I really understand, but as long as it worked
Been having problems too but I figured if I was so were others---seems like I was right.
I don't know for sure what was happening--I use Firefox and had never had a problem before.
Made a post on the Carnival board a short time ago and it kept telling me to log in--when I did and tried to post, it would tell me I had to log in--tried about 4 times before It finally worked.
Ah, but such is life. I'm sure I'll figure it out or if it's a glitch someone will fix it.
Still having trouble. Can't post on IE. Had to log in again on Fire Fox even though I checked "Remember Me." Keith reported it to the Web Master. I sure hope that person can help. Hope this posts, too. We don't have trouble on any other site.
I believe Beenie's advice is correct. Somehow your computer has an incorrect cookie in its IE browser which is causing this problem.
The solution is to delete ALL of your cookies from IE.
To do this, take the following steps:
-- In IE, on your upper task bar, click on TOOLS
-- Go down to the bottom and click on INTERNET OPTIONS
-- On the GENERAL tab, 1/2 way down, click on the DELETE COOKIES tab
-- Another dialog box will appear asking to confirm. Click OK to delete all cookies.
This will clear all cookies from IE. The plus side is that once you log in to Cruisemates, and click the REMEMBER ME box, you shouldn't have any further problems.
The downside is that you will have to re-login to every other website that you use. But once this is done, you're all set.
I got hit with the same problem out here in California.
You do need to clear ALL cookies.
Follow Dean's instructions but clear ALL cookies. Tools->Internet Options->Browsing History->Delete
On IE 8 a box will come up that will ask you to check all the different things you want to delete: UN CHECK the Preserve Favorites Website Data!!!!!
On IE 7 click: Click "Delete All" at the bottom.
It seems that a corrupt cookie was loaded. Why: I don't know at this time. Perhaps the folder, on the server, that stores cookies had a write error. There are reasons this can happen. It has happened to me on another well known site that uses this same software. I will let the tech people know to check it out so it won't become a recurring problem.
Phil&Liz and all: Cookies are required on all websites that require you to log in. You receive cookies from almost every website you visit. The "Remember Me" option just places a "non-expiring" cookie into your browser so that, even if you close your browser session, the cookie will not be cleared. "Remember Me" only works if you leave and come back. It has nothing to do with a "forced cookie". Cookies are not evil and are a requirement on the Internet. Without it a website cannot tell if you have or have not logged on or who you are even after you've logged in. You have to remember computers are stupid and constantly have to be told what to do. Every time you hit enter on a website it checks the cookie to see who you are and if you are logged in. It's like the "Hi I'm Joe" name tag you get at a party but computers are so dumb they have to look at the tag every time they talk to you, no matter how many times they have. You will receive a cookie from just about every website you visit. If you do any Internet shopping a "cookie" is what is used to tell the server what is in your shopping cart and that cookie(s) are what are read at checkout to place your order.
Cookies exchange information with a website but they cannot execute a program that causes harm to your computer. This information that is exchanged can be good or it can be "not so good". A tracking cookie may give a list of sites you have visited and exchange that information when you return to the original site. It does not and cannot "key log" and send that information. The vast majority of sites use tracking cookies. So if you do not want a cookie forced on you then the only alternative you have is to stop using the Internet. Even if you "block" cookies using some program you still will receive one if you log on to any secure site.
Cookies are not the problem, and take the blame for the damage other Internet programs cause, it is malware, trojans and virus' that cause the problems. These are actual programs that do damage to your computer. The cookie, while it can be used for gathering or storing information can't do much else.
Take care,
Mike

FWIW: I have not had these problems just so you know. I did have to log in - twice, once in the regular log in, and then again in that box in a window that says "You have entered an invalid username"
But that was all. I did not have to clear any cookies and I am using the same computer I have been on all along.
I do know they are working on the database issues, but personally I think the cookie problems may have been temporary. Just try logging in again before you clear your cookies. And be sure to check "Remember Me."

My problems lasted at least 48 hours prior to the clearing of the cookies and I repeatedly logged in and checked the remember me box over and over.
I am not certain what they did but it really is not a big deal to delete the old cookies and actually it might be a good thing to do that from time to time anyway...
You are a very good sport. Some people are lost if they clear their cookies. They don't have passwords written down and they lose them for sites they used to go to.
That is probably one reason we don't have some of the same posters we used to have before the boards were upgraded - people can't find their CruiseMates password
