With more stringent airline security before you board, & even keeping you in your seat for the last hour of the flight, getting anywhere now, can be nerve racking for sure..just don'r do what Ivana Trump did...maybe she should ask to borrow "The Donald's" private plane. oh my...these new rules, will drive her crazy!
I sympathize with Ivana. As for the new security rules, I'm just glad I don't have to fly. A major security risk occurs and it's the TSA's fault, so they punish innocent passengers. Go figure.
The TSA is reactive rather than proactive. I just hope nobody on any planes has a device in their rectums, cavity searches for everyone, ouch.

All of the sudden driving seems like a very attractive option.
It is ridiculous that they had so much information on this underwear bomber, plus the yahoo paid cash for his ticket, which in our experience (paying cash and/or having a one way ticket) has always fast tracked us right in to secondary screening. Not to mention Homeland Security has been notified by the nut job's father that he is a threat to National Security and the idiot has trained to be a terrorist in Yemen...yet they claim the info was too "thin" to put him on the "no fly" list?
Now even though this moron was unsuccessful in his bid to blow up the plane. he has quite successfully accomplished backing up airports for hours because we are now subjected to more rigorous screening (when the screening used previously should have been sufficient to catch him, had it been utilized) but no, now we're all being penalized because of the incompetence of a few airline screeners, who didn't do their job. He should have been subjected to secondary screening, including a thorough pat down and explosive detection. No, scratch that, he should have been on the no fly list and never allowed to get on that plane in the first place.
I agree with all, but we miss the point that we could be talking about a blown up plane over a residential area, and many dead people.
It was pointed out in our local news, but barely touched by the national news. The same advisor for this terrorist, was the same one for the shooter here at Ft. Hood.
We have to not only accept that life as we knew it is over, but that the enemy is now among us.

You hit the nail on the head! But not only is the enemy among us, our enemy is sometimes "us".
The safeguards were in place to catch this guy if they had only been utilized and practices were not followed that could have detected his hidden cargo.
It is a shame that the flying public is once again going to be violated and our movement onboard (I'm not talking about taking a leisurely stroll, I am talking about going to the bathroom, I don't know how this will affect international flights as they often allow you to move freely about the airplane to stretch your legs to get the blood circulation moving and prevent blood clots on those long flights,) restricted because these folks didn't catch this guy before he got on the plane.
Very valid points, its the time we live in, not much we can do about it, safety comes first, passenger or not.. We don't have to like it, but we do have to live with it...
Well, guess I'll continue to cruise the Caribbean out of Florida only. I quit flying commercially a long time ago, and only do it when there's absolutely no alternative. It was a hassle right after 9-11, and has only gotten worse. The bad part about it, is that even with all the inconveniences to those of us who pose no threat whatsoever, the bad guys are still getting aboard, and doing, or trying to do "their thing". Sad situation IMO.
We returned from San Francisco a couple of hours ago and Yes; security is tighter and it took longer to get through the checkpoint but it wasn't anything horrendous. I need to be patted down because of a pacemaker and I had to wait about five minutes to go through my routine.
We figured that things would be backed up at the airport so we got there just over two hours before the flight and were through security within thirty minutes. We spent the rest of the time in the Delta Sky lounge.
The flight was a standard flight and no one was subjected to "no bathroom break". The flight attendant said there is no problem with someone going to the bathroom during the last hour "except on final" the cabin crew just needs to be aware of how long and often they are in there. No one is allowed to wander the cabin.
Overall pretty normal for a Monday after Christmas flight.
Take care,
Mike

As long as they don't make me strip in public, as I have seen it happen,I am ok with the new regs...I am glad to see they allowed you to use the bathroom Mike, because ,that is whereI would get upset.....if they do follow through stringently, unlike your crew..they should be preapared to clean up all types of messes, and be prepared for angry and the possibility of crying passengers of all ages

TRIP...just read they have eased up on the bathroom use and blankets..For those with bladder problems... I think the ad for Depends for men and women is going to be meaninful
The crazy guy boarded the plane in Amsterdam not the USA. I was told that Amsterdam does not have the same screening process as we do. They have no security line only a metal detector as your boarding your flight. I don't know if that's true or not. It looks like our greatest threat is international flights coming in to the states. As for Ivana she needs to get a grip or charter a jet.

Just curious
Would this yahoo have to have a visitors visa to enter the US? if so how did he manage to get it if he was on the "list"?
He apparently got a visa before his name got added to "the list."
Apparently, the Department of State did not have any process to match names being added to "the list" with previously issued visas that remained current -- big "Oops!" And I suspect that this omission has already been plugged.
The "bathroom break" rule is only for International Flights. Domestic flights are not under the rule.
Take care,
Mike
You're absolutely right. DD and family flew from DEN to EUG on 12-27, and didn't notice much difference in US security. The same very long security lines at DEN were the same they've been for several years. They showed up four hours before flight time (due to the 12-25 incident) and waited nearly three hours at the gate. DD said not much had changed. The 12-25 Nigerian went through Security in AMS, and not in the US. However, I still think that US security screening remains lax. Just heard something about a breach in NWR today.
