Good Morning CruiseMates!!
I have been busy getting stuff packed for our trip north today. Just got the trash out. Need to put a few dishes in the dishwasher and get everyone out of bed and dressed... lol we should leave sometime before dark.
I also need to call the neighbors and ask them to put the trash cans back where they belong and intercept a delivery later today.
We're going to make a brief stop in Dearborn and visit with some friends for an hour, then journey on to a nice hotel with a water park just north of Detroit where we will splash and frolic while we spend the night. Then tomorrow we'll splash and frolic a bit more and then pack up and head the rest of the way to inlaws house.
I think it should be a nice way to spend New Year's Eve and I am happy we will arrive early enough, we should avoid most of the amateurs on the roads.
We'll be back home sometime Sunday and poor d/h will be back at work Monday morning.
Well I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday and I look forward to the next post from Todd. I think I will be bring my Wee PC and try to keep in touch with all of you while we are away. If by chance I should miss any of you, I hope you all have a very Happy New Year!!!!
Beenie, sounds like a great plan! Hope you don't run into any "weather".
Where in the Great White North do your in-laws live? Don't forget to wave at me when you come over the border!
Speaking of weather, boy did we get some yesterday! We went out after lunch and everything was green. We came back at 4 pm in a raging blizzard and now it looks like a Winter Wonderland again. It is still blowing around and the temperature has dropped to -9 with a much colder windchill.
NOW it looks normal for Dec.!
We were supposed to meet friends for lunch today, but the place we were meeting is almost 2 hours away, and I hear they got more snow than we did, and considering the condition of the icy roads here and the blowing snow over open fields, we are staying put today. We will have to re-schedule (again!).
Looks like a good day to stay in and read a good book...
Luanne, my local library had a display of Christmas-themed books and I read them all! Then I chose one of the authors, Nora Roberts and looked for some more of hers, so that's what I reading now. I have read at least 8 books over the holiday - more than I have in the whole last year!
It is lightly snowing outside and the talking head on TV is saying that we should only receive about one inch of snow. Goodie! I get to play with the snowblower.
Not much on the agenda for today. Yesterday, Betty slipped on some ice and landed on her side. She's got a huge bruise on her hip and a couple of aches and pains but no severe damage. It's good that she comes from hearty peasant stock. I'll probably let her off from shoveling the driveway today but only today. I can't spoil her and tomorrow she has 300 lbs. of softener salt to move to the basement. I can't have her getting lazy on me. The next thing you know she won't be bringing my beer to me or rubbing my feet as I sit in the recliner.
BW: Have a safe trip and enjoy your year-end vacation.
I hope everyone has a good Wednesday and great rest of 2009.
Take care,
Mike

Good Morning cruisemates! Bright sun shining on my office (patio) this morning, so we're in for a bit of warming for upcoming weekend. Mid 60s today.
Mrs. Kuki dropped me at the golf course yesterday, so she could shop while I was golfing. She spent most of her time lost, so today I'm going to show her how to get to where she was going
Then I'll find a spot in the sun to wait, and let her hang bags from my limbs as she goes.
Then perhaps I'll take her for a nice dinner... In N Out Burger
I slept LATE! I hate when I do that, but I hate alarms even more. Oh well, maybe by staying up later and sleeping later, I'll be able to stay awake until midnight tomorrow night!
We still have rain, but I believe it is to clear on out, later today. Today I will do some grocery shopping for tomorrow's dinner. Our DS, DIL, and PGB will be joining us, to bring in the new year. None of us want to be on the roads. I guess our DS is growing up, in spite of his gene pool. After all the traditional Christmas foods, we are having steaks and baked potatoes for our dinner.
Trip, you have me thinking about getting a Kindle. I'm still in the pondering/researching mode. Exactly which one do you have, and are you pleased with it?
Mike, when Betty brings you that beer, be sure to duck. Her hip may be bruised, but I bet her throwing arm is as good as ever!
Kuki, I would tell you to invest in a GPS, but like others in the news lately, I have found them to be wrong -- OFTEN!
I sure miss posts from Todd. Praying that he has regained his strength and that Fran continues to improve.
Get out there, and make it a great one!

Good morning to all! I've been up since 5:30am dreading having to go outside. The temp this am was around 18 and for me that is way to cold. We had a semi waiting to be unloaded, so I bundled up in my Carhart's and helped hubby get the job done. It is suppose to warm up to around 40 (wish it would go higher) later today.
I have managed to get myself cleaned up and will be taking my Mom to an eye specialist in Ashland, Ky in about an hour. She is having a problem with one eye and her Dr. is sending her to a Dr. from Lexington who comes to Ashland once a week. Hope he can help her.
Mike, take it easy on Betty! Give her at least 2 days to rest up from her fall. Glad she didn't break anything. Have fun with your snowblower!
BW have a safe trip north. Hope the weather is good for you.
RD, I haven't managed to get any books read over the holiday except instruction manuals for some of the toys I got for the girls.
Prayers continue for Todd & Fran. Hope they are on the mend.
Good morning from a very overcast Southern California. Ma Nature is getting ready to give us about four drops of rain. Droughts are boring.
Beenie, have a wonderful trip, and Happy New Year!
Mike, yes, give Betty a couple of days off.
RD, I just brought home a couple of books from the library. I think one is a Christmas story. I am amassing a pile of books to take on my cruise.
Sue, bundle up when you go out there!
Trip, do you use the Kindle a lot, or do you read "the regular way," too?
Luanne, find something fun to do today!
MY DH just brought me a cup of coffee and a piece of coffee cake for himself. I guess that's a hint to get breakfast on the table.
Mike, Betty has my sympathies after her fall on the ice.
I did that almost 2 weeks ago and I am still bruised from my knee down to my ankle.
Funny story though, I went out to buy some driveway salt after that, and hauled home a very heavy bag and spread it all down the ramp at the back.
Funny, I thought, those are awful big chunks of salt, huge pellets in fact, but hey - all the better to grip on right? The next day they were still there, along with the ice - nothing had melted. Of course then I check the bag and realize I'd bought a huge bag of softening salt for the water softener we don't have. Duh! So much for country living....
Take a brick or some other large, heavy, object and bust up the softener salt. Pour it in a bucket and take out your aggravations on it. It will work to de-ice but in pellet form it won't work so you have to make it small. It also doesn't work too well below 15F-20F. I've used it in a pinch.
At least you'll get some use out of the salt. It tastes terrible on food.
Take care,
Mike

Darlene, I truly enjoy my Kindle...I jumped on the Ebook bandwagon years ago, with 2 generations of the the RCA Ebook...It was produced too early to be user friendly with publishers, and authors.
So I bougtht the Kindle 2..I got it on Ebay, and it came with the leather cover, and when all was said and done, I paid slightly less then the $259.00, it's going for....There is no backlight, which I miss, and, I liked the RCA page turner better, but all in all I covet it.......There is a larger screen model, but for me, this is enough...you can adjust the font to 3 sizes...yayay!
You set up a credit card and register it,and you are good to go..books are downloaded in a second, and when you watch it come in,it amazes you
I have already downloaded 2 free books, one of which I had taken out of the library, and had to return, not having read it....now I can read it when I want to.
Judy, I still read books, listen to books on tape/..allI need is another head and I am good
