I was cruising around Youtube and I came across a bunch of great videos of people dancing Zouk Lambada. I had hear of Lambada from in the 80s but this looks to be a modern take on it. This is one of the videos. YouTube - Kadu & Larissa - Zouk

Never heard of it before but enjoyed the video. I'll check out other videos on this dance also. Always like to see and learn about different dances out there in the world that people are dancing.

From what little I know, Zouk, by itself is a dance usual to certain parts of the Caribbean--Martinique, Haiti, St. Lucia, Guadeloupe, etc. Lambada originated in Brazil and by itself, has a faster beat and movement than Zouk.
I've seen Lambada performed live at shows in Rio and the rhythm and beat is faster than Zouk.
Looks like what's on the video is a blend of the two--maybe a little different than regular Zouk and slower than Lambada. Anyway, it looked like fun.
Wish I could do either or both !!
Ron thanks for the information on Zouk. It has Rumba, Samba, and Salsa moves in it as well as the Lambada it's fun to watch people dance that are so talented.
BTW I do a mean Mashed Potato plus I add a little gravy to mine for favor.

Kat, go to google--type in Lambada Music--there's some good videos of the dance. A couple I love are kids --I mean 12-14 yr. old kids named Roberta and Chico--watch their moves.Boy wish I could twirl and swirl like a snake!!
These kids are fun !
Her's two of my favorites--
Chico and Roberta-Frente a Frente and
Chico and Roberta dance to Lambada.
Seeing people who can really do this with a good live band is a treat.
Kat...is your gravy______ (oh never mind this is a g-family rated board) ::
CQ...I forgot, you're from Jersey which is real close to Philly so of course you would know all the cool dance steps from that era..
CQ.. in the early 90's i went to Rio during Carnivale and watch the dance schools do their thing....all i can say is WOW...you would fit right in..you should put that on your "bucket list"
This is so bad. I have relatives in Brasil (Dad's side) and Relatives on the Big Island of Hawaii (Mom's side) and I don't know either group. I should find them then go over for a visit. I would stay in a hotel it would just be fun to visit with family that know the area.

I would love to visit Brazil and plan to some day. Alot of Samba dancing in Brazil.
Well it's snowing and super cold I think I'll stick Julieanne Hough's dance workout in the DVD player. Paso, Swing and Jive. Jive and Swing really gets the heart rate going....:-) Dancing and working out at the same time gotta love it!

Kat when I own Carnival and sell it all but the one ship, one of the stops we'll make will be Brazil, and of course during their Carnivale, but we'll do other shows as well.
I'll invite you along so you can see any relatives as well as learn their dances!;-);-)
