Our old cruise editor, Anne Campbell, is scheduled to appear on MSNBC this morning (she just called me from the taxi). They want to discuss the cruise lines' roll in aiding Haiti.

Since I don't come here until the evening I missed Anne .
Paul, what did she have to say? I'm just guessing that ships visiting Hati was the topic? Do you have a link where we can hear her?
I'm really glad that I didn't have to make the decision to visit Hati (RCI, Labadee) or not. There are so many pros and cons. On one hand I'd be very uncomfortable enjoying myself on the beach; on the other hand I'd be very happy to go to the shops near the beach and spend (probably more than I would, usually) money.
I do appreciate that RCI is giving aid and $ to the people of Hati.

if you go to msnbc . com there is a link, it is a 2 min talk. Anne basicly said that if RCI had decided not to go they really would not be losing anything. she did state that personally she would feel a bit weird being there on the beach knowing that thousands of people not really that far away are suffering so.

I love the quote in the lead in: "The ship made a stop at a private beach resort just off the coast of Port Au Prince, Haiti, right where all the devastation we've been talking about."
This is ridiculous. They are giving the impression that the ship is pulling into the midst of destruction and having people sip cocktails in middle of the destruction. This is not journalism.
Also: Anne's remarks make no sense. She basically states that it would be better for them not to go there and not supply the 1 million and revenue for Haiti.
I also notice that the interview was stopped exactly after when Anne said it would be better not to go there.
A good example of swayed journalism.
Take care,
Mike

Don't be too surprised, MSNBC dug it's own grave some time ago by this very behavior. It's become so bad according to the ratings, that one time last week, a channel flipper out in Nebraska somewhere happened to land on the channel thereby providing that week's audience.
If one thinks I'm being facetious, I am...but not by much.
Hope you get to go on your cruise and have a blast my friend. You can always "flush out" your kidneys with the proper cruise "medication."
