Default Pre Super Bowl (Only in New Orleans)

to say that we are excited about next week's game is putting it mildly

1) the big Mardi Gras parade scheduled for Sunday the 7th, has been cancelled due to the game
2) on Tuesday, following the Super Bowl, regardless of whether the Saints win or lose there will be a Mardi Gras style type of victory parade that is expect to draw more spectators then Fat Tuesday (which means more than 1.5 million)
3) today, to honor the late Buddy Dilberto (Buddy D.) a famous local sports broadcaster and huge Saints fan in died in 2005, who before he died vowed to dawn a dress and dance thru the streets if the Saints ever made it to the Super Bowl, there will be a parade of thousands of men in dresses lead by former Saints QB Bobby Hebert
4) the NFL marketing folks got caught with their pants down because they did not copyright the "Who Dat' phrase and tried to gain a court injunction against teeshirt makers (who are making a killing selling anything with Who Dat on it)...after a public outcry, the NFL is trying to back away from the controversy

The Saints incredible season has had the effect of causing the citizens of the Gulf Coast to look forward and continue the rebuilding effort as opposed to looking back at the nightmare of Katrina. If the Saint can go to the Super Bowl, we can and will continue to rebuild

5) the Saints defensive coordinator Greg Williams indicated the defense will show no mercy to hometown hero Payton Manning and hope to dispatch him the same way we dispatch Kurt (into retirement)and Brett (who is giving it serious consideration following the butt whipping he receive at the Dome)

can't wait for next Sunday

I am so glad for you and all the folks in New Orleans for this much needed boost to morale. It is indeed miraculous that the Super Bowl will be played in a venue that was just a short while ago a place in such terrible shape that I thought they'd have to tear it down.

As I wrote in an earlier post, anyway you look at it both the Saints and the people of New Orleans win big time no matter who wins the game.

But I believe I also wrote to the effect that.........sorry buddy..........I thought the Colts will win. Next Sunday we'll all find out.

If the Saints do pull it off, how long will it take you to get sober enough to tell us all about it? ;-)

Todd

Phil & LIz..would love to join you but I have plans to take the young lady that has captured my heart for a Valentine's weekend at a B&B in the opposite direction of New Orleans

You do know it's going to be extra crazy WHEN the Saints win the Super Bowl,,actually Fat Tuesday will be a minor celebration

Todd..due to budget cutbacks from City Hall, clean up services have been cut, so it probably won't be late summer before the city is clean

I don't drink, but I will be intoxicated with joy for at least thru Easter Sunday

Venice, you're a guy from New Orleans who doesn't drink? I didn't know there was such a person! Well, at least you can pig out on beignets and hot cross buns!

Venice,

I just had a feeling it would come down to the Saints and the Colts, I am glad that it worked out that way. I am happy to see the spirit of New Orleans bolstered by these events and I think it is well deserved and can't wait for the outcome of the game. Both teams have a lot to be proud of and are both winners in my book.

Like Todd, I too feel that the Colts have the upper hand, but regardless the outcome I am going to be thrilled. It is a win-win in our household. New Orleans really needs this trip to the Super Bowl and I am thrilled they are going. I can't wait to see the guys in dresses dancing in the streets and all of the celebrations that are planned.

Todd..remember I was born and raised in upstate New York and have only lived in New Orleans since 1998...however, WHEN the Saints win, I could indulge in a celebration drink or two

Beenie...the City of New Orleans is in a state of frenzy and it's only Tuesday...not alot of work is getting done and non essential businesses are starting to announce they will be closed next Tuesday for the parade...the election for the new mayor is saturday and no one cares

only in New Orleans..Monday is red beans and rice day in New Orleans...the Monday after the Super Bowl it will be black beans and gold rice

Wish I could be there for the festivities Venice... but my trip south will have to wait until June.

Enjoy the excitement, and we'll all be glued to the action on Sunday!
