Default Chicago CruiseMates, did you feel the earth move?

I wonder if Donna and all our other Chicago friends felt the earth move this morning and no, not in a good way Venice ,

Evidently the western suburbs got a good shake this morning by an earthquake.

Small earthquake wakes up Chicago | detnews.com | The Detroit News

4.3 earthquake, that isn't very big. You would feel it if you were awake already. It might wake up a couple of light sleepers. That is only news because if didn't happen in California. Here is a map of recent earthquakes in California from the USGS website. The bigger the square the bigger the earthquake. The big yellow square was a 5.9 quake it happened last Thursday. It didn't make the news here.

I guess the musical phrase in Chicago today is: "The earth moves under my feet......." But then again in California, it's always, "Shake it up baby!"

I sure felt it! I knew it was either an earthquake or the dog shoved the bed, but it lasted way too long for it to have been the dog and she was still....It lasted about 5 seconds or so, weird!

Your 5.9 earthquake made the news here.

But here in the Midwest it is considered an unusual event. I remember back in the late 80's there was a small minor earthquake here. My Dad called me in Arizona to tell me about it. He said he was sitting in KFC's drive though and he thought someone was jumping up and down on the car bumper. That was the first time I heard of the New Madrid fault. We just aren't used to all that earthquake business around here lol

hope all of my cruisemate friends in the Chicago area are ok...Beenie..I thought based upon the title of your thread, that perhaps the 11 loyal fans that greeted the Colts at the airport on their return made so much noise for the team that the earth moved in Chicag:: ::..or was it the 11,000 fans that greeted the Saints at New Orleans airport upon the teams return or maybe, just maybe, it was the thunder of over 800,000 Who Dat fans at the parade last night that shook the earth as far as Chicago and woke up Mike Ditka ::

I grow up in California so I think it's stange when the earth doesn't move. Are you sure it was the 5.9 earth that made the news. Eureka had a news worth quake on January 9, 2010 it was 6.5. We were lucky that noone got hurt. There is a lot of retofitting and earthquake proofing that protects us. Anything over the 6s is powerful and makes you start to get nervous. I agree with Donna when the earth moves 5 seconds feels long.

Mrs. Kuki and I honeymooned in San Franscico. As we made love an earthquake hit, the bed shook wildly, the walls rattled, and pictures fell of the wall. I said to Mrs. Kuki.... It's not going to be like this every time.

OK... not a true story,

We felt it up here in Milwaukee.....at first I thought it was a snow plow going through......earthquakes are not the first thing that comes to mind when the earth feels like it's shaking up in this part of the country!

Sorry to say that I slept through this 3.8 earthquake here in Illinois. I have talked to people who heard and felt it. I don't know if earthquakes elsewhere make noises like somebody ramming you home with their car. That is what they said about today's shake. The last one we had in this area, woke me up around 2 AM, it sounded like a train just went by or a car just hit my home and I am miles away from train tracks. We don't get much earth shaking around here so it is news.

Didn't feel anything today, but we're at the "end" of the New Madrid fault. We spend a few extra $$ a year to insure against an earthquake.

I live very close to Donna and I did not feel it. My cat, dog and I slept right through it. My husband was out of town.

The epi-center turned out to be in Pingree-Grove Illinois, just a couple of miles west of us here in Elgin, IL. I saw on the news it was downgraded to a 3.8 magnitude quake. We never felt anything, slept right through it this morning, didn't wake up any of our animals or our 7-month old baby girl. We're going to put this in her baby book, her first earthquake, and she slept right through it! We didn't know anything about it until we saw it on the news after we woke up!

We have a name for Earthquake insurance in California. Rip off. I bet you paid less in chicago through so maybe it's worth it over there. Here the coverage is junk and the cost is high. I'm still surprised a 3.8 quake made the news. I think we had six of these today.

Once every 10 years or so. It's only in the morning and melts by noon. However, Lake Tahoe is about 2 hours away and they have wonderful snow and skiing. Today no rain high of about 60 degrees cloudy. For those of you sick of snow we have lots of houses for sale over here.

Don't even tempt me. I am so sick of this white stuff, I am about ready to go camping in Kuki's back yard. I am sure no one will notice a tent in the middle of the fairway.

Katlady, that is why earthquakes are a big deal here. The last one we had was 6 years ago. In Illinois we get snow every year, we have lots right now. It is nothing new, earthquakes are rare. That is why a 3.8 here makes the news.
I am so ready for the sun, just over 2 weeks before our next cruise. Woo hoo!!!!!!!!!
