Hi Luanne ;-) - gotcha.

Mike - we went to see Avatar last night and during the pre-show there was a commercial with Jerry Seinfeld where he makes fun of people who like ice-fishing. He was promoting a new realuty show where they take husnabd/wife arguments and actually decide a winner. But the ice-fishing is the metaphor for marital arguments.

He says, "how bad can any guy's marriage possibly be that he finds sitting in the freezing cold next to a whole in the ice in the middle of lake more exciting than being than home with this wife?"

The location is a frozen lake in Minnesota. I thought of you the whole time.

It goes on like that for two minutes, like "whose stupid idea was this?" and finally Jerry's friend just bolts out the door and starts running away.

Paul,

It's similar to the Seinfeld episode where George's parents are going on a cruise and George sells the "Costanza Cruise Collection". One line is something like: What do you expect they do on a cruise eat, get seasick and throw up.

Stereotypes are everywhere.

There is more to ice fishing than sitting all day and holding a pole and there is more to cruising than eating and getting seasick. It's all in what you do with it.

Take care,
Mike

That's funny, I don't remember that episode of Seinfeld and I thought I knew them all!

I have to brag and say I was a big fan of Seinfeld even its first season. I got it right away. I even remeber when I thought the show bogged down in the thrid season when they got into the bit about writing a show about "nothing." I remember Kramer becoming more crazy and popular as time went on.

I also had the good fortune to move the NYC at just about the same time as the third season of Seinfeld was on and it was hardly even a hit with NYers yet. I would rave about it and a lot of them would say "I just don't get it, what's so funny?" I used to joke with them and say they thought it was a documentary, not satire.

But within a couple of years suddenly they all loved it, like the rest of America did. It's funny how it took quite awhile to catch on.

Paul:

I too am a Seinfeld fan. It's the reason I have a dog named "Kramer". Based on the episode where Kramer took the dog medicine to cure his cough.

I was always working late when it initially came on Wednesdays before Night Court. Then it moved to Thursdays. Either way it was video taped.

My wife and I loved the show from the first time I saw it. It is one of the best sitcoms ever produced. IMO I will admit that I was disappointed in the final show but it was probably more of a disappointment that it wouldn't be back. yada yada yada.

The Costanza Cruise Collection is in the episode where Kramer sells Morty's "The Executive" vintage raincoats.

Take care,
Mike (Who used to be the master of his domain)

As I recall, the Costanza cruise collection was known as "Cabana Wear" and Frank would not considering leaving home without them.

Yes:

Rudy, the vintage clothing dealer referred to it as his Spring Cruise Collection. Frank referred to it as "Cabana Wear". I always loved that episode. Especially when they round the corner of the ship and find Morty and Helen who have been trying to avoid them for entire episode.

Take care,
Mike

Default Cruising is NOT for Everyone

Keith and I just got back from a 15-day Circle Hawaii on HAL's Zaandam. We both thought the food in the dining room was blah. At first, the service was wanting, but it improved. Often, the food in the Lido was better. The food in the alternative restaurants, Pinnacle Grill and Canaletto was just great. The Pinnacle Grill has its own kitchen. So yes, if you're sailing on HAL, do try the alternative restaurants. On the Zaandam, only the Pinnacle Grill has an extra charge.

I do think HAL could use a new executive chef.
