Does your personality change when you are on a cruise? If you are somewhat of an introvert at home, do you try and be a little more outgoing on the ship, figuring, I will never see these people again? Do you readily engage in conversations, or share tables in the cafe with strangers, and leave as Cruisemates?
I know someone who buys different styles of clothes for her cruise..A bit more flamboyant, then she would wear at home. I wonder if some of the guys I see, wearing 10 chains, wear them back home
My husband has always said, I can talk to a wall, and get an answer, and have always been an extrovert So, Howdy Stranger

Trip, I am the same way. I allways talk to everyone and I have made friends with a lot of cruisers. I am the same person on land or on the sea.

I too, am pretty much the same on a cruise or at home. I'll grant you that it's much easier to talk to people on a cruise than it is at home. People at home sometimes give me "the look" when I say "Hello" to them. (Like,,,what do you want???) On a cruise, everyone, almost without exception, is open to conversation, and the "free and easy" lifestyle. I LOVE being on a cruise for this reason!
I admit it takes me a while to re-learn how to relax once I get on a cruise. So as a result I can be a little type-A until I remember how to relax. It can actually be quite a problem for the first few days. I tend to wake up very early and try to have everything orchestrated to the last detail. Luckily the kids appreciate the structure during the day, and d/h doesn't mind because I am independent and get up out of bed, get dressed and head out to see what I might have missed had I stayed in bed. I grab the walkie talkie and leave him and the kids sleeping and they call me when they are ready to explore.
The last several cruises with the exception of the Bloggers cruises, I have ended up in some sort of organizational role for the roll call, and there have been a huge number of people (like over 200) participating, which was great, but I think I will gladly pass the mantle to someone else so I can just do my own thing, and be a participant rather than an organizer. When you have groups that big it is great, because you get to meet so many nice folks, and these folks were also very active and we had a lot of stuff going on between Meet & Greets, Bridge Tours, Cabin and Poker crawls and various excursions we planned to do together. I am not complaining, I had a ball, but I am going to teach myself how to veg out again. Over the years that has become a bit of a lost art for me.
As far as being outgoing, I try to be friendly. I know sometimes when I am deep in thought pondering the fate of the universe, people have said I look like someone really made me mad, but generally I am not mad, just deep in thought, but I probably don't appear to be terribly approachable or friendly .
Mam,
I'm the same lovable person on land or sea.
I wear my tats and earring all the time!
Beenie,
I found you a very pleasant person to cruise with. You have the greatest children! You were very helpful when Joyce was locked in our cabin. You stayed on the phone until help arrived!

I think I'm pretty much the same at home or on a cruise. I can always visit, and enjoy meeting new people. However, I also like a little quiet. (For those who know me, I'm sure you find that hard to believe!)

I don't think I change much, "I yam what I yam" as Popeye would say...
However, I have always tended to be shy, and have found it much easier to be friendly with strangers on a cruise simply because everyone else seems to be friendly too. I guess people are friendlier when they are happy on vacation....
I adapted my personality to fit the cruise..when we were on the river cruise on Peter Deilmann we were 2 of 12 Americans and 112 Germans, I was much more of a listener and answered lots of questions about Katrina, once they found out I was from New Orleans....on a regular cruise, because I generally don't know any of my fellow passengers, I tend to be much quieter and observe more of my fellow cruisers and focus on my cabin mate
on the full charter smooth jazz cruises, I am very verbose and outgoing because I am surrounded by cruisemates who love smooth jazz
I suspect that is the way most of us are on a cruisemate group cruise
I have a fairly good "Z" personality. Meaning that I can usually mix with many different types of people.
I have found that in recent years, as I get older, I am not as outgoing as I once was but still have no problem talking to people. I don't stand backward in elevators as much as I used to.
My wife says she's shy but she is one of the most outgoing people I know. She can have someone's life story in less than ten minutes.
Take care,
Mike
