Fyvel Finkle..from Twin Peaks..he his wife and two talented sons were on the cruise.Fyvel gave a talk about his career and there wasn't a seat to be had in the theatre.. the sweetest man.. I cut coach Jon Gruden's hair when I was a hair stylist. I made him laugh even. There was a teenage boy sitting in the next seat and just so excited to be sitting next to Jon Gruden. Anyway as I was running Jon's credit card the teenager asked for his autograph. Which he signed. I got the credit card receipt handed it to him and said "can I get your autograph too?" He laughed, I made Jon Gruden laugh. I'm proud of that he is a pretty serious guy. He was nice, but he is a quiet private person. So I just cut his hair without bugging him to much. It was fun seeing my hair cut on TV. If you watched the Raider's while Jon Gruden was the coach you saw my hair cut also.

Remember Johnny Tillotson? Johnny Tillotson* Home

I insulted him on a cruise once..... When I saw him, he looked like Howdy Hoody with a bad toupe, in a leisure suit on the old Westerdam.. long story:

I have met others, but none that I insulted

I met Tammy Faye Baker in an airport - on my way to a cruise! She really did wear all that makeup, and it looked even worse in person! It was ironic because in high school my cheerleading squad went to a national competition that was held at Heritage USA, the Christian resort Tammy Faye and Jim Baker started. We drove through the resort the night before we checked in and noticed that all these people were coming out of the big convention hall crying. Thought that was weird, but thought nothing more of it. The next day the big scandal broke - we had seen all of the employees leaving after being told that they were resigning!!! The entire 4 days of the competition there was national media everywhere! And, the service at the hotel stunk...because all of the employees just kind of gave up.

We have met several noteable persons on a cruise BUT I can not remember their names. Does that count?

I had the pleasure of meeting Eunice Shriver, When I was a volunteer at the World Special Olympics held in New Haven Ct.

Also a few years ago I was on a plane with the US women's soccer team as they were flying home from a tournament in Portugal.

I have also met and had a chance to meet and talk with soccer greats Pele and Eusebio.

Depends I guess on whom one considers famous. I met a lot of the big time NASCAR heavyweights back in the early to mid 60's (Junior Johnson, Fred Lorenzen, Glenn "Fireball" Roberts, Paul Goldsmith, Darrel Derringer, Joe Weatherly, Wendell Scott) plus a flock of Indianapolis drivers and persons of note when I was even younger. But back then NASCAR drivers were "good 'ol boys" and weren't considered "rock stars" and you could go and hang out in the pits and garage area before and after a race and shoot the bull with the guys and their mechanics.

I know one moderately famous actress (whom I've mentioned awhile back), Park Overall of "Empty Nest" fame as well as several movies; in fact I recently did a column on one of her late mother's pets. But then again as she's a local girl, a whole lot of folks around these parts know her as well and she's just "regular folks.".

Now you'll really have to go back for this one and most of you will never probably have heard of this fellow. I got to meet when I was about seventeen or so and have lunch with, a man whom I greatly admired and have always considered one of the finest orators to whom I've ever listened, Everette Dirksen, Senior Senator from Illinois. Also once attended a political cocktail party in NYC where Al D'Amato was the draw, but I doubt he'd qualify as being famous and anyway, I was most unimpressed finding him to be somewhat boorish.

Years ago (in another life) I worked with a friend who promoted rock concerts. We often partied late into the morning with some of the "big names" in rock and roll at the time... (AE - after Elvis )

Probably the most fun group was Jimmy Buffet's band... that was when he was just "on his way up".

Well, I keep a list of famous peeps I've encountered and/or worked with, mostly to remember the good times, so this is just a cut-and-paste. Over a career of TV/film production, and living in Washington, you meet people. I would preface the list by saying that the much longer list of journeyman--but not famous--actors, musicians, writers and other artists I've known and worked with have as big a place in my heart--bigger, actually--than most of the famous ones.

Most of these people are folks I worked with on various projects. Others I've met only casually. A few are (or were) good friends. They all are (or were) nice folks. It's probably still incomplete, because I still occasionally think of somebody else and add them. I have especially fond memories of Vice President Humphrey. My wife worked for him when he was VP, and I got to know him a little. God, could the nation use his optimism and goodwill these days.

Hmmm...I don't recognize a lot of those "famous names", but then I'm not so familiar with American politics, sports, and jazz artists!

You will probably not recognize anybody on my list either, since they are mostly Canadian childrens' singers and performers, and a few Canadian singers..

Sharon Lois & Bram
Fred Penner
Mr. Dressup
Charlotte Diamond
Carmen Campagne
Connie Kaldor
Rita MacNeil
Stompin' Tom Connors

oh, and I saw William Shatner once in a hotel swimming pool!

Hi AR this is going to seem odd my favorite on your list is Studs Terkel. In college I was required to read the book "working" it was one of the most interesting books I have even read. Real people doing real jobs is much more interesting then fiction. I never sold the book back to get my money I still have it. My hubby's favorite actor is Jimmy Stewart. I have a question did you even meet Danny Kaye? He is my favorite actor/ singer/comedian.

For the ladies here, I did meet all of the " Thunder Down Under" at the swimming pool at the Stardust in Vegas some years back as well as Telly Savalas at a sports lounge in Vegas. I walked past Winston Churchill near the beach in Nice, France long ago (he was walking with a cane and had two women with him). I also had a room in a billet next to Colin Powell in Vietnam.

Thanks, Kat. You can have my autograph anytime!:eek::eek:

You have good taste, and it doesn't seem odd at all. Studs was the champion of the notion that everybody has a story, and that fame doesn't define worth, positive or negative. That's why I hestitated to post my extensive list of "famous" people, because except as a walk down memory lane, it doesn't really mean anything. Studs was a really wonderful man. I think everyone on earth should read Working. If his beloved Chicago is the "city with broad shoulders," then he was the storyteller with broad shoulders. I was so sad at his passing a couple years ago.

No, I never met Danny Kaye. Wish I had. Get it? Got it. Good.
