Hi all,
My Dad is orginially from Madeira Island town of Camacha and I have family all over the island. The Madeira Island has had mudslides and flash flooding. The news articles mainly talk about the capital city of Funchal. Right now 40 people are died and many more are missing. Please pray for the people of this country.
My parents have been out of town since I hear about this. I will see them today. I will have my dad call the relatives to see if they are alright and if they need anything from us. The relatives in Camacha could be okay because they are up in the mountains. But the relatives in Santa Cruz (near the airport) are in a lower area. Here is a map my family is at numbers 21 & 24. Funchal is number 1.

Sometime what you hear on the news and tv isnt always correct----I had that happen to me before--while I was traveling--and almost started to panic----thank goodness---what really happend wasnt that bad---but really blown out of proportion.
Kai it hits me hard also, because of my background.

Kat, when I heard about the mudslides and loss of life, my I immediately thought about you and Sis, remembering that you have family there. I pray that they are safe, and help for rebuilding will be forthcoming.

I'll be praying too, Kat. Knowing you have family there, and having been there on our transatlantic cruise with Cruisemates make this seem even closer to home. Hope you hear good news soon.
My dad is having trouble getting through on the telephone lines. He isn't to worried because my family is up in the mountains. Funchal is down at sea level so all the water is flowing to them that is what is causing the problems. When my dad was 14 & 15 he did experience this type of flooding. So I trust his judgement on this. I pray for the people of Funchal.
