I'm starting to get better at quilting I still have lots of room to improve. But I finished this "baby" quilt in one week. Which for me is super fast. I'm happy with it to. I could point out every mistake. Cause I know were they all are. I'm nervous giving it as a gift I hope they like it. My cousin's daughter turns one and the party is today.

I have seen the work of the professionals and I'm not at that level. I went to a quilt show and the level of talent is amazing. If there is ever a quilt show in you town check out these pieces of art.
Thank you for your comments. It's fun to make these from family as gifts. I think they enjoy getting them, because they know the time and effort that goes into it. A ran into a lady at the fabric who was so helpful. She helped me pick the boarder fabrics and advise me to use flannel on the back to make the quilt more soft and warm. It was so nice of her to take the time like that. Quilt people are very nice and helpful.

Kat, it is a beautiful quilt! I appreciate the skill and hard work that goes into quilting, although I simply don't have the patience for it! I know it will be a favorite "blankie" of your cousin.

Kat...talking about quilts,...I was in a fabric store today, and the woman in front of me was buying material to make tee shirt quilts. I asked her what that was, and she told me it's basically, at least for her, a memorial quilt. They take tee shirts from the person who passed away, cut squares out of them, and, use fabrics around it, and then back it.
Also, my boss went to a quilting museum this week, in Lowell, Mass, to find someone who could quilt stitch on 4 ply silk, so he can create jackets for my shop...it took a while for this woman to get the hang of if, even though this work is done by computers..still a learning curve, but hopefully it will work out...he said the quilting museum was just amazing!

I have been looking at memory quilts were you add pictures to the quilt. That in combination with the T-shirt quilt would be a great way to remember a loved one. This is not my quilt, but it's a good example of a memory quilt. This website is were I got the picture below. Lots of other wonderful memory quilts on this website. http://www.originalquilts.com/memory_gallery.htm

Wow, it's huge! Beautiful work, must be so enjoyable.
I like crafty things, but anything to do with sewing has never been my forte.
I'll just admire yours!
I was looking around the internet for a bunny quilt pattern and I found this website. How Can You Help?
They make quilts for sick and terminal childern. I was thinking I can do another bear quilt to send to this group. I still have some fabric I didn't use. It will get me some practice and be for a good cause. Since I'm not the most trusting people in the world. I did check out this company and they appear to be on the up and up. In fact here is a link to a list of other giving back quilt places. http://www.unitednotions.com/un_main.nsf/giving-back

Kat, I think your quilt is beautiful . I'm sure your cousin will love it and it will probably become an heirloom in the family. I so wish I'd kept the quilt that my grandmother made. It was falling apart so it was thrown away . Now I know that it could have been fixed.
We have a lot of T-shirts ranging from the late 1960's through last year. I'd love to have a quilt made out of them. Trip, did the lady you met tell you the name of her business?

Fern, this was just woman who was making them for the family of friends who have passed away...this is what I was assuming...
If you went to a fabric or quilting shop, they probably have names of people who do this. The museum my boss went to, was given the name of this woman, who is quilting the silks for him....
I can bet since you are in the south, where quiting is such a tradition, if you tell someone you want this done, you may find there are loads of people willing to do it...

Thanks, but sorry, Kat, it's all I can do to sew on a button ! My Mother was very good at sewing (and lot's of other stuff that takes patience), but I just can't do it ! I have saved your link just in case things change.
Trip, thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to "Google"!

That's funny cause my mom can't sew at all. I guess it skips a generation.
If you have a quilting fabric store try giving them a call and see if they know anyone who can do a t-shirt quilt for you. Since the people that work there are quilters and most of the quilting stores have in store classes they know people who do good work.
Kat your quilt is beautiful and I'm sure will be appreciated. My mother was an avid quilter in her younger years. I only wish I'd paid more attention to how it was done cause I do good to get buttons sewn on! I have made a few of the fleece type blankets where you cut and tie No Sewing involved with them. We have a local church ladies group who make the no sew blankets for several local charities and they are so appreciated. I'm sure if you make one for the charity you mention it to would be appreciated by the receipient. Keep up the good work.
Having met her on a cruise ship.. you all should see the beaded jewelry she makes TRIP you would die just seeing pictures of the tiny, tiny beads she uses.. Will have to tell KatLady about the t-shirt quilts we have had made.. On one cruise to celebrate our 50th anniversary we collected t-shirts for all the ports and somebody else made them into a huge memory quilt.. We have since had a quilt made of Red Sox t=shirts and t-shirts of parrots from many of our trips.. some dating back to 1988..that had b een hanging around..
