Unfortunately we are dealing with nature and it is not normally part of the brochure offering you get on your cruise option. But the reality of being somewhere either out on the sea or on land where nature can "occur" it can hit you when you least expect it,,,as it wants to be remembered. Hi for all your thoughts I'm here
Sadly in this case we have loss of life, but it's just a reminder that we are at sea here when we cruise, and despite the best laid plans of the lines it could go wrong from a "freak" of nature. That’s why we do drills that some see as fun or a waste of time,,not
The lines can control a lot of things but they can’t control nature.
My worry is how are the "lines" and the "passengers" ready to react when an incident like that does happen, the THING they don’t expect, I certainly don’t expect it to happen to me. But
It may be tomorrow, it may be next month or next year but there is a very good chance because we are dealing with nature here that there is going to be a major incident with the cruise ships we have out there, both new and old.
Why, because it’s odds, it's experience of seeing these things in othere areas, its nature kicking you to remind you it’s there and life is not planned on schedules or guarantees or brochures where its concerned......I'll not even mention the Titanic as part of that discussion. Behind every technology including ships and flying there are people, and behind every disaster apart from nature intended there are people
Take the uncertainty of nature and the faith placed in people on,,,planes, ships, driving, expectation of others in society and your rules then there's a good chance that in your life you will meet the odds of meeting,,,what you did not expect

I also saw the video today and was happy to see that the passengers were running away from the water and the damage, while the cruise staff were running towards the damage and any passengers involved. This is what I'd expect to see on a well run ship.
This was such an exceptional occurrence that, while I'm really sorry and sad for the loss of life, it happening again doesn't worry me at all.

As I have been writing.. the Majesty...took us to our beloved Bermuda at least 12 times from Boston.. and it holds a special place in our hearts because of the crew, the intimacy of the ship and of course it going to St. George through the cut..I hope this isn't the end f this dear ship...it deserved so many years more.. we were on a ship crossing from the UK to Boston and waves hit as least up to the 8th deck...we rocked and rolled, but it was a much bigger ship and withstood the seas...another ship had massive damage to their dining room and windows.. Naturally we feel for the families that lost a loved one.. Fern, did you ever sail the Majesty..it was until the Dawn the most rebooked ship in the NCL fleet..
I saw that video on the news last night and it was scary. One can just imagine being there in the beautifully decorated dining room and seeing that wall of water burst through the windows....scary stuff.
Makes you thankful you attended the lifeboat drill....
We were on the Ruby Princess Last fall when we passed this same location. We were unable to port in Marselli, (sp) France due to bad weather. We encounter very high waves in this same location so we continued to Barcelona.
Wonder why the weather is so bad in this location?
Cruising on Ruby Princess: September 22, 2015. 10 Days, From New York to Quebec City. My 98th Cruise!
Thanks for the video, we were on the Celebrity Century when this happened. We could not find out anything about it on ship. I guess they don't like to talk about things like that on other ships even though we were know where near them. I hadn't seen any video of it yet, I didn't know that it hit like that.
