My favorite comedian was Bob Hope. Not only because he brought so much humor to many people, but also he would visit our country's troups who were stationed in all corners of the globe. Bob Hope was a true american and a true patriot!
We saw him a few years ago..and he h asn't changed his material and I don't think the show was an hour long (still wears a red sweater)...The people putting on the show were very upset.. Carlin I adored and I barely remember M.M.
I guess I'd have to say mine is probably Red Skelton. Not only was he funny, his humor was clean.
Another was Paul Lynde.
Fran's is Totie Fields.
Todd
You can still see him on tv.. the old skits and y our right.. had a sad life after his son died.. Totie was Totie.. and a blast... Paul was right on the edge..

Remember those days of Hope and Crosby movies.. but as a true patriot..I beg to differ..h e went to visit the troups, but turned around and sold the film /shows to the networks..I lost all respect for him. Oh yes.. I remember Martha Raye and Frances Langford too.. His son, Tony, is a lawyer in Washington and few know who is father was. There are many stars who go over there without fanfare to visit the troops now.. but they keep it under the radar..G-d Bless them..

I have the greatest respect and adore Joan Rivers. From the death of her husband she has turned herself into a successful business woman.. beside being a comic.. Had thought about seeing her show in Boston and weeks before it was completely sold out.. She doesn't take herself seriously...and makes fun of herself..
For an explanation I must tell you as a child growing up in the late 1940's and thereabouts... my mother used to take me into Boston to the RKO KEITH to see all the vaudevillian stage shows AND a movie on Saturday mornings. Thinking back last night the name of Spike Jones, Jerry Colonna, Senor Wences, Liberace (he wasn't a comic, but put on a great show) Tommy Dorsey, Harry James, etc. If there was one thing my mother gave me it was my love of theatre and Parrot Pop and I remember seeing a young comic in a musical..The Princess and the Pea..the young woman in Boston was Carol Burnett..The other musical was ?the Apple Tree... Barbra Streisand..all here in Boston and let's not talk about almost every single Sondheim pre-Broadway like Follies and Little Night Music..Camelot...and some bombs which were successfully "doctored" before NYC. That is one of the greatest legacies the love of live theatre that I have received.
Sylvia Fine was Danny Kaye's wife and she was really talent. I was a fan of AMC and found Wonder Man. After that I watched all his films I can find.
I heard he conducted the new york philharmonic in the flight of the bumble bee with a fly swatter. Here is a him conducting the audience.
What a great clip! Thanks, katlady!
