Hi All,
I had a strange thought. When I was younger I use to pay for the car behind me while crossing the bridge a random act of kindness thing. Plus I got a kick out of doing it. Away I was wondering if it's possible to leave something in my cabin for the next group in there. I don't know what? Maybe drink coupons or something from the gift shop (key chain etc.). With like a little note to have a great cruise. Is that possible or would it be removed by the cabin steward?

I'm sure it could be done. Just let your room steward know you are going to be leaving something (a gift) for the next occupant of the cabin. Wish you were sailing in a cabin the cruise before mine!
I have to say, and sadly so, that I would not expect the next cruisers to get your gift...It's just the kind of thing, you would never know if they got it, and they would never know they almost had a gift....nice idea in theory though...

I've always wanted to do (and will soon) what Dave Ramsey advocates: leave a $100 tip for the waitress working Thanksgiving at Waffle House. His rationale is that if you are working a Holiday, you NEED the $.

An absolutely lovely idea, Kat but I'm afraid Trip is probably right.
It's called "Paying it forward" and it's basically nothing more than a form of the "good neighbor" principle. The following will illustrate my point.
Back in the late seventies I had a flat on the NYS Thruway just North of the Rt. 17 Jct. at about 9:30 pm on a Friday night. All three Northbound lanes were bumper to bumper flying past and it was an absolute deluge outside and lord was the spray flying. But you gotta' do what you gotta' do, so I got out, popped the trunk and started taking out the spare when a pick-up pulled up behind me. The fellow jumped out, took one look at me dressed in a suit and said, "I"ll take care of this, get back in your car with your wife before you drown!" I didn't get in but I did retrieve an umbrella from the back seat. Meanwhile the guy went to the back of his truck, got out a big floor jack and long story short changed the tire. By the time he finished he was the drowned rat. While thanking him effusively, I tried to hand him a twenty (if I'd had more I'd have certainly given it to him) and he said, "NO! Just help someone else." He smiled, jumped back into his truck and was gone.
I've kept paying it forward ever since in every way I can. It's a truly wonderful feeling and I highly recommend it!
I'd buy some drink coupons and mail them to one of your friends here at CruiseMates...I sail in June
I agree, this is the best solution..............I sail Carnival Liberty September 11 then Carnival Sensation November 28.

Here is one that I took from my forum that really happened to me.
One bitter cold winter morning in NH I was on my way to work. Feeling a little aggravated because I had to wait in construction traffic. There I sat in my toasty car feeling angry at the workers out there in the cold. . As I drove along I turned in at the next Dunkin Donuts for my usual coffee. I began to feel bad for my thoughts. Without thinking I ordered a Box O' Joe and a dozen donuts. I took them back to the crew at the construction site. They were delighted to get the little break I offered them. It made my day to do something nice. Quite often after that I would find that my coffee was already paid for when I stopped in to that DD.

why wait until the end of your cruise to do a gesture for someone that may or may not appreciate it do something during your cruise (but don't let them know it's you), based upon your observation of human behavior and enjoy your gesture by actually seeing the results
example...if you observe a young couple, one who is in uniform (on formal night) with young children, do a small gesture to thank them for their sacrifice and service to our country...or you can send me the latest CD of one of the Smooth Jazz artist that will be on my upcoming cruise on the Carnival Liberty on October 23rd ::::
That is a great idea, but sadly I have to agree, chances are, the next people in the cabin would not find your gift. If there was a way to add a few $ to their sign/sail account, that could work if it could be done?
Nice idea Kat, but sadly, I'm sure it would be "cleaned up" by the cabin steward.
I have often wanted to leave something behind, and have now gotten into the habit of leaving something special with a note, for our cabin steward.
It can be something from home, a food item, a postcard, a CD, a magazine, a pin, anything from where I live that might be different for someone to receive.
What a lovely sentiment "paying it forward", never heard of this at all, I am pretty sure if you did something like that in the UK you would be regarded as peculiar at least.
I'd buy some drink coupons and mail them to one of your friends here at CruiseMates...I sail in June
I like that idea.

I would but you forgot to put the cruise line so I don't know which line to send the drink coupons to?;-) Plus I'm not sure the cruiseline would take drink coupons from Katlady to Beenie Weenie.

A great idea would be to leave drink coupons for the 8/29 group on the Splendor.
Well of course I will leave drink coupons for ScurvyDog and Snoozeman you can just go up to the purser's desk and check on it. Just tell the purser Katlady left them for you.

YES, I remember the movie and cried my eyes out...When we are out into a restaurant and have a discount coupon or two, Parrot Pop passes the coupon out to other diners close by.. Many years ago when we started cruising we received so many helpful hints that I personally feel I must "pay it forward" to help other tourists (we fall across in our city looking lost) or on line.. We've invited four tourists from Europe to have brunch with us one Sunday not long ago..shared with cruisers some of the many hints that have been passed along. I might think twice leaving something in the cabin and the steward cleaning it up. It always makes me feel better "paying it forward" in that in Europe others would do the same for us, if we looked completely lost..
I would but you forgot to put the cruise line so I don't know which line to send the drink coupons to?;-) Plus I'm not sure the cruiseline would take drink coupons from Katlady to Beenie Weenie.
Sure they would: Your card for a Bon Voyage gift can read anything. From: Abe Lincoln to George Washington. As long as the name on the credit card is right they don't care.
Take care,
Mike (Sailing on Celebrity Century on May 3, 2010 in Cabin 9232)
