Which is the best? From what I understand, you can get free books from any of them as long as the books are out of print. Is that right?

I probably won't be reading in the bright sunlight, but if I was which would be the best choice?

Help!
Sorry, Fern, I missed this post! There are actually lots of brands of ebook readers, but the ones you mentioned are probably the top 3. You can't really go wrong with any of them. They all use e-ink, so reading in the sunlight will work just fine on any of them. I'm not sure the Sony is able to download books, you may have to hook it up to your computer to transfer the books to it. But that's not a big deal. I chose Kindle at the time because Amazon had the most books available for it, but they are all catching up, so not sure that's really an issue anymore either.

You are correct in thinking that the classic books are free for all of them. And if you do your research, you can find more current books on sale or free, too. It's really just a matter of deciding which reader you like the looks of. I'm not sure how much different the prices are on them.

Thanks, Linda! I think I'll go to B&N and check their reader out. I don't need a lot of "bells and whistles" !

Just an FYI, if you are on FaceBook, if you become a fan of Kindle, you get updates, and, news on your wall...

Woohoo! I can't wait to see how you like it!

Oh Fern, if you want to check out the others, I think I read that Target is now selling the Kindle, and you can get at the Sony at Walmart, I think. Have fun and let us know what you decide!

I have been reading the forums on Amazon about the Kindle, and someone said that you can go to other e-book stores on line if you are looking for a book that Amazon does not carry. Does anyone know where this other site might be?

I have learned more tonight about e-books. There is a whole big world out there I didn't know about.

I have learned about back lighting, e-book wars, etc.

I still think the Kindle is best for me.

By the way, Yes I have already picked out the books to put on it.

You will find that many of the books you may want, are not available on the Kindle...to the left of the page, you will see an area, that says, something like, let the publisher know you want the book on Kindle...

The issue is getting better, but many times it's a problem with the publisher and thr author, and the split they get for books sold. I have friended many of my fave authors on FaceBook, and this is a situation I read often..One author Steve Forman[love his books] posted on FB, when he finally reached an agreement for his books.

I may be wrong, but if Amazon does not have a book on Kindle, then the other stores won't either, because of the $$ issues...I am referring to current popular authors.

I received my Kindle today. It's all charged, and I already have four books on it. I reallllllly think I am going to like this thing.

My packing list says "Pack Books" Well I did in a matter of seconds, and they all fit in one hand.

Thank you all for your help.

Default I think they're great!

My wife and I love them. It's easy to find books we like and the price is better than paperback or HC.

we just read one about a murder mystery on a cruise ship. CARIBBEAN MOON,

Good fast read and it made me laugh out loud a few times. A little scary too.

It's the kind of book I would never gotten to see if I dind't have a Kindle. I checked and its on Nook too.

I love the 99 cent price on many of the books and it's a treat to buy six or seven for the price of one paperback.

Just came back from my cruise with my kindle where I had downloaded 3 of one of my favorite writers books (Fern Michaels and her sisterhood series) finished them in no time and very much enjoyed the Kindle. Ran out of books so took one from the free library on board Star Princess.

Next cruise, I'll download more. Highly recommend it.

Default E-Reader, Anyone?

I enjoy my Kindle tremendously. I went to B&N today, while my DH went somewhere else. I saw so many book titles that I had already read because I got them as soon as they were released by the publisher. I am spoiled by not having to wait so long to get my faves!

I don't know anything about the others, but I received a Pan Digital Nook as an early gift from Fran and I absolutely love it. I download directly to the reader with no problems wherever I am. I think at the time it was a little less expensive but the last time I checked, the ratings were very favorable.
