I thought there was a thread on Avatars but I could not find it. There is a thread on screen names, but not Avatars. On another thread, there was a point made about not using their own picture for an Avatar. Reading that, I thought it might be nice to explain our Avatars.
My Avatar is a very special picture. It was taken by Ray at the Crown Room at ATL. Ray and Helen were on their way to Bombay; I was on my way to DC. I had a good feeling they were on my plane (based on posts here) from MCO to ATL so I searched for them. It was the first time I ever met Ray and Helen. I then invited them to the Crown Room.
This picture is very special for me. I use it on more than CruiseMates. That feeling of meeting people in the flesh that I had only known online was wonderful. Since then, I have spent time with Ray and Helen on many occassions. I have been to their house and they have been to Arlene and my house when we lived in Florida.
I prize this picture, and the memory of when it was taken, so I will always use it for my Avatar. I welcome other stories of Avatar pictures.

That's a great avatar story Marc, and I know what a privilege it is to meet Ray and Helen!
My present avatar was taken at a beach on our last cruise (sorry, I can't remember what beach). I usually change it every time I take a new cruise.
Look out for a new one coming up!
I am debating with myself about putting in a photo that is not cruise related but does have me standing with a body of water behind me that has mini cruise ships on it .
In the early 60's I hung out in a park in Brooklyn ,NY .A young flaky and annoying kid would as well .In 1969 I heard that this guy and some friends were organizing a music festival in NY that was going to be called Woodstock .Knowing that the flaky guy was involved I had no desire to go and actually talked friends and relatives out of going who are barely speaking to me these days .
My wife and I instead decided to spend the weekend at a music festival in another part of NY that I anticipated being great .It was in a resort area with a stage and a water body behind ,very relaxing .We had a great time but unfortunately could not recall any of the singers or groups that appeared . Several years ago we decided to take a drive to the area and my wife took a picture of me which is the one I may decide to post .Everyone that I have related this story to cannot believe that I gave up the opportunity to see the greatest music event of my lifetime because of a flaky kid who had the vision to fulfill a dream .
