MIAMI – April 19, 2010 – New cruise ship Celebrity Eclipse has cancelled the first leg of her launch celebrations – scheduled to begin on April 22 – in order to assist U.K. travelers whose return from their Easter break has been halted due to the impact of ash clouds from the eruption of the Eyjafjallajoekull volcano in Iceland. Celebrity Cruises is working with U.K. tour operators to collect these stranded vacationers affected by the airport closures and subsequent flight cancellations that have affected travellers in Northern Europe
So, the ship will go to Spain, to pick up stranded passengers, and return to England. A humanitarian gesture to be sure, in this time of need for sooo many.
It appears, my leg, for the moment, is still in tact..things are changing all the time, but at least many will be home again soon.
Kudo's to Celebrity....
Trip, with her book & tea!

The chairman of Celebrity was live on our local radio today from the bridge of Eclipse as she sailed up the Solent, she is going to Bilbao tonight where the party due to be held in Southampton will take place, the mini cruise for TA's is cancelled but the ship WILL return on the 23rd in time for the Naming ceremony & mini cruise on the 24th for those lucky enough to be invited. As far as I know there is a further mini cruise on the 26th then the official maiden on the 29th (we are on that one). No mention was made of the ticket type or price paid to qualify for getting on this ship or the Royal Navy ships....
